Had anybody worked on this?

It seems it would be cool idea to expand on racial traits
and allow players to choose racial trait for their hero instead of a class trait as they level up (I am bit inspired by DnD 4th that uses something similar).

It is a bit of pity now that racial trait effect the character relatively a very little on higher levels.

For example Shadowmeld gives significant bonus to your Sh. Elf hero at first level, but the bonus becomes extremely insignificant at level 5.
So giving Sh. Elf players possibility to choose things like Improved Shadowmeld (level II trait, extra 2 blue dice in the first round) would make being of elven blood relevant for the whole game.

Traditionally, the video game's racial traits were always minor boons largely losing relevance in the end-game compared to your talent build and gear. A few exceptions can be made since some of the benefits had some measure of value, i.e.: Goblin's 'Time is Money' (+1% Haste), Blood Elf PBAoE Silence.

If you feel like the game needs some beefed up traits for the late game then by all means I encourage you to develop some yourself. It doesn't look like anyone else has had the idea and I'm interested to see what you can come up with. Keep us posted! laugh

Actually I never played WoW and dont intend to, so I am not really interested in some perfect simulation of the simulation of the world of Azeroth :)
The 1 per cent bonuses really looked almost comical.

I am thinking about coming up with something.

Dont you know if there is some Photoshop template for the Trait Talent cards BTW? Thanks.

Troll

Starting Racial Trait:

Regeneration

Start Of Your Faction Turn
Regain 1 Health.

Optional Racial Talents:

Improved Regeneration II

Regeneration now lets you regain 1 extra health.

Dead Eye III

Start Of Your Dice Pool Step
If you have a Bow or Gun equipped, gain REROLL +2.

Reactive Restructuring IV

End Of Each Combat Round
Regain up to 2 health lost this combat round.

Rapid Recombination V

Regeneration now lets you regain 1 extra health.
You are ressurected at full health. You may choose to be ressurected on the same space you were defeated.

Berserking VI

Start Of Each Combat Round After the First

Gain REROLL +3, ATTRITION +2, and add BLUE, BLUE to your dice pool.

If your health is less than your capacity gain REROLL +2, ATTRITION +5, and add RED, RED, RED to your dice pool instead.

Orc

Starting Racial Trait:

Bloodfury

Place Tokens Step
ATTRITION +1


Optional Racial Talents:

Improved Bloodfury II

Mauler III

ATTRITION +1
When you defeat a character he loses 3 experience points.

Hardiness IV

Capacity Changes
Your Health capacity is increased by 2. When this talent is chosen immediately gain 2 Health.
You are immune against Stun.

Victorious Roar V

Place Tokens Step
ATTRITION +1

After Combat Victory
Regain 1 health and gain Energy up to your capacity.
If you defeated a character he loses 2 experience points.

Quick Bloodbath VI

Start Of Your Place Tokens Step
Pay 1 Health or Energy to place hit tokens equal to your ATTRITION in the damage box, then reduce your ATTRITION by 2 for the remainder of the combat.

Edit: Berserking to be more thematic.

Add BLUE to your dice pool.

Wisp Spirit II

After you are ressurected
Move up to 3 regions ignoring. You can move through black border and blue monsters.

Greater Shadowmeld III

Start Of The First Combat Round
Add BLUE, BLUE to your dice pool.

Memory of Immortality IV

Capacity Changes
Your Energy capacity is increased by 4.
When this talent is chosen immediately gain 4 Energy.

Quickness and Finesse V

Start Of Your First Dice Pool Step in This Combat
You may exchange any number of REDs for BLUEs and vice versa.

Lower all opponents threat by 2 in this round.

Place 5 hit tokens in the damage box.

You may pay 1 gold to draw one triangle item or 3 gold to draw one square item and put it into Merchants Deck.

Selling costs for items are 1 gold higher.
Buying costs for items are 1 gold less.
Selling price can never be made higher than buying one this way.

Explorer III

When you perform a Travel Action
Draw 2 triangle items, discard one and keep the other.
If you dont move during the Action, draw square items instead.

Elder Stoneform IV

Start Of Your Reroll step
You may change up to 4 extra ANY 1 or ANY 2 into a 3.

Dwarven Toughness V

Capacity Changes
Increase your Energy capacity by 1 and your Health capacity by 3.
When this talent is chosen, immediately gain 1 Energy and 3 Health.

Legendary Archeologist VI

When you perform a Travel Action
Draw 4 square items, discard 2 and keep the rest.
If you dont move during the Action, draw round items instead.

Keep up to 2 Potions drawn and discard the rest.

Shoulder Bolter Equipped IV

Pay X gold (limit 6) to get REROLL +X and to add X BLUE to your dice pool.
If you would exceed the dice cap with this, place 1 hit in the damage box for each exceeding die.

Weapon Specialization

Reroll Step
REROLL +1

Optional Racial Talents:

Short Lifespan II

You may train Powers as if they required 1 less level.
You may equip all Items and Powers, and gain Talents
as if they required 1 less level.

Diplomacy III

You may learn Powers for free.

Perception IV

When fighting independent creatures cancel any damage dealt to you and tokens assigned by the creatures.
Draw and keep 1 tringle item for each independent monster defeated.

The Human Spirit V

When you would be defeated and this card has no hero token on it, put a hero token on it and you are not defeated. Change your Health to 1 and regain Energy up to your capacity.

When you perform a Rest action
Remove hero token from this card if possible.

Hero of Epics VI

Capacity Changes
Increase your Energy and Health capacity by 1 each. When this talent is chosen, immediately gain 1 Energy and 1 Health.

You are considered to be 1 level higher for all possible game effects
(but still use 6 level Energy and Health capacities).

Cannibalize

End Of Combat
Regain up to 2 Health at the end of combat in which you participated and at least 1 opponent was defeated. You may not use this ability if you were defeated in combat.

Optional Racial Talents:

Gourmet II

Gain 2 experince points at the end of combat in which you participated and at least 1 opponent was defeated. If the combat was with independent creatures or enemy characters gain 4 experience instead. You may not use this ability if you were defeated in combat.

Wail of Doom III

Start Of Your Dice Pool Step
Spend one experience point to place 3 hit tokens in the attrition box.
At the end of combat, lose any Health and Energy in excess of your capacity.

Consuming Hatred IV

Start Of The Combat Round with Enemy Character
Gain 2 Health and Energy and lose 2 experience points if able (otherwise you are defeated) to assign a Curse token to every participating enemy character.
At the end of combat, lose any Health and Energy in excess of your capacity.

Patient Malevolence V

When you are defeated
Gain 7 experience points BEFORE you are ressurected.
If you were defeated by a character assign 3 Curse tokens
to one of the participating enemy characters.

Eternal Horror VI

Capacity Changes
Increase your Energy and Health capacity by 2 each. When this talent is chosen, immediately gain 2 Energy and 2 Health.
Whenever you would gain any experience you may gain
the same amount of any combination of Health and Energy instead.

I like the idea. Also, your expanded traits show a lot of creativity and atmosphere. It's likely a pretty daunting task to achieve any sort of balance, though. WoW is hardly a game where you can easily make a couple of full-scale test runs. Additionally, any sort of PVP based traits make the problem worse as few players bother with PVP in this game (it might be fairer to give each race a pvp ability at the same level).
Anyway - it sounds like it could be fun.
