Quote:
Part of a new series of interviews with game designers here is the first we asked Christian Marcussen about who he is, what he likes, and how he came up with the idea for Clash of Cultures and the upcoming expansion Clash of Cultures: Civilizations.

Z-Man Games: What games got you into board gaming?

Christian Marcussen: I really don’t know. It’s not really something I got into as much as it was something that was always there. I just stuck to it even after I officially stopped playing with my Gi-Joes. As a kid I got into roleplaying games though, and I guess it’s much the same kind of crowd (a statistic I just made up, but I’m sticking with it!). So I played board games with my family as a young kid and as I got older, new games were just naturally introduced to me as my older friends got them and played them.

It could just be a generic "Leader" figure in each color. Assuming you can only own one at a time, you just keep the card nearby so you know what the figure does.

Cleopatra looks counter intuitive. In historical terms she subverted an enemy army and provoked an anti Egyptian backlash from the targeted empire. I suggest using cultural influence against enemy troops, at the cost of losing influenced city pieces whenever successful. Looks powerful, but costs points.

There's 42 Leader cards. For the price point it is going to retail at, I think expecting actual miniatures is a little much.

I'm cool with that. I've played games before where a token has different functions depending on the card behind it (Gears of War boardgame comes to mind). It'd be nice if the token was a generic miniature (one in each player color) rather than the garbage cardboard tokens the wonders are made in (and i replaced ASAP). It'd be even better if there were two in each player color: one male and one female

I hope there is still some proofreading time. I see "Empress", "Japanese", and "Buddhism" all misspelled on a single card.

Those are all caught and corrected in the final version that went to print. I'm sure errors will found though, but quite an amount og proofing has been done. But something always creeps in

"OG proofing"?!

I guess we know one of the sources of these, Christian.

Having fun (as speaker of only one language, I have no legs to stand on),

I don't mind tokens. Heck, I've been playing Mythic Battles as of late. I think my biggest issue is the thickness of said tokens. MB's are too thin, but the game pieces in Taluva are awesome for handling.

Maybe a good idea, not specific to this game, but in general is for publishers to make available a set of 3d models that could be printed to shapeways and stuff. That way they dont have to put them in the real game, they dont have to invest in making an expansion, but they could have the models available the way the designer sees them for people willing to spend their money on if they want. All it would cost the developer this way is the cost of making the models in 3d, but not for making the molds, printing them and than hoping they would sell.

With the Celts and Boudicca, that makes 8 out of 14 civilizations confirmed. I guess the other two celtic leaders will be Brenno and Vitalstatix er, I mean Vercingetorix.

EDIT: I like having so many female leaders represented so far. Will we get Hatshepsut and Zenobia also?
