There's an article on board games published by Choice, located here:

It would be nice to see an article about games in mainstream media that was written by a gamer and not a journalist with a rudimentary understanding based on limited research.

At least the journalist had the good sense to ask Keith and Hooly.

Congratulations on your promotion to President Of LXG, Keith!

Love LXG as I do, though, I'd be surprised if they (we?) in fact had "the largest collection of games in the Brisbane area – more than 300". Even Mr Friendless up there has more than 400 listed.

Still, 'twas a better article than most. At least they actually spoke to people who know and didn't rely on 30-year old memories of "Monopoly is cool!".

Hi,

Never told em I was President - sorry Eddie (looks like a secret coup).
I advised them we had the largest public collection of games (ie that people could borrow the games).

Regards,

Keith

I didn't mean to imply that you had said any of those things. I'd just written it off to 'standard journalistic license' or something.

I thought it was a decent article. Enough to get people thinking about it, and interested in board gaming. And of course mentioning the social aspect, which is the big one.

"But it’s the more challenging titles such as Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride and even Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) that are seeing a resurgence in popularity."

Had to chuckle a bit at this one. In order to communicate contemporary board gaming, journalists have to talk about the scene 5 years ago. And did she say there was a Resistance video game???

Ooh a little higher, now a bit to the left, a little more, a little more, just a bit more. Oooh yes, that's the spot!

And clearly thought that Melissa lived in Brisbane, otherwise why else would he ask her anything?

Melissa was in there?

I'm pretty sure I don't have even the biggest private collection in Brisbane - meng lists more than me, though all of his may not be in Brisbane.

I thought that was great article. No press article goes exactly the way enthusiasts want, but I reckon that one hit the mark for a mainstream audience pretty well. Good work Keith!

The journalist was from Sydney and did most interviews by phone. - I understand that they contacted the people who ran PAX. Ian Houlihan was the board games rep at PAX and was contacted by the journalist and Ian put him onto me. I suggested the possibility of following up with Critical Mass as well.

Regards,

Keith
