A foreshadowing paranoia...

3x Forest Snare
3x Rumour from the Earth
3x Asfaloth
3x Elf-Stone
3x Gandalf (Core)
3x Gleowine
3x White Tower Watchman

Player 2's deck

Glorfindel (FoS), Frodo Baggins and Legolas. Initial threat of 21.

2x A Watchful Peace
3x A Test of Will
3x Hasty Stroke
3x Unexpected Courage
3x Feint
3x Horn of Gondor
3x Hands Upon the Bow
3x Northern Tracker
3x The Riddermark's Finest
3x Westfold Horse-Breaker
3x Ride to Ruin
3x Rohan Warhorse
3x West Road Traveller
3x Rider of the Mark
3x Light of Valinor
3x Hail of Stones
3x Westfold Horse-breeder

First player token to Player 1.

That's quite an unusual scenario. It's about locations but you have one tough bad-ass to fight at the end (Hence the Forest Snares). You need to be able to toy with locations as simply using the Travel phase won't be enough, seeing as you basically need to clear 5-6 active locations. Be prepared to deal with enemies entering the staging area at weird moments too because of the Underworld mechanic, hence the Hands Upon the Bow and Hail of Stones.

Player 1's starting hand : Protector of Lorien x2, Henamarth Riversong, Miner of the Iron Hills, Mithrandir's Advice and White Tower Watchman.

Player 2's starting hand : Light of Valinor, Horn of Gondor, Hands Upon the Bow, Rohan Warhorse, West Road Traveller and Ride to Ruin.

The deck has enough good cards that most hands will be kept. Asfaloth, Thror's Map and Light of Valinor are especially good.

Setup :

The Fourth Star as the active location (2 Underworld cards are put under it).

Round 1 - Resource phase

Player 1 draws Erebor Hammersmith and Player 2 draws Unexpected Courage.

Round 1 - Planning phase

Player 1 plays Mithrandir's Advice, drawing Thror's Map, Gandalf and Mirkwood Runner.
Player 1 plays Thror's Map on Bifur.
Player 1 plays Henamarth Riversong.
Player 1 exhausts Henamarth Riversong to look at the top card of the encounter deck (Unwelcome Discovery)
Player 2 plays Light of Valinor on Glorfindel.

I know I have a lot of stuff to draw cards and that can come back to haunt me if I draw the specific plot but the plan is to get rid of locations in a hurry.

Round 1 - Quest phase

Player 1 commits Bifur.
Player 2 commits Glorfindel and Frodo Baggins.

Encounter deck reveals Unwelcome Discovery (Underworld card is Pickpocket) surging into Sewers (Underworld card put beneath it and beneath The Fourth Star) and False Lead.

False Lead is usually a good card to draw. It's better as the first encounter card though of course. I hate drawing Sewers with an active location having already 2 Underworld cards beneath it as 3 is a bit troublesome.

Round 1 - Travel phase

Player 1 exhausts Thror's Map to set Sewers as the active location.

That's where Thror's Map is great, it allows you to put a card having a lot of Underworld cards beneath it aside for a while... Or in that case, the whole game!

Round 1 - Encounter phase

Player 1 engages Pickpocket.

Round 1 - Combat phase

Aragorn blocks Pickpocket (Discarded card is White Tower Watchman), Shadow card is Local Trouble (No effect).
Legolas attacks and kills Pickpocket, 2 progress tokens are put on Sewers.
Frodo Baggins pays 1 resource to put 1 resource on Bifur.

Legolas is a must-have in this scenario.

Round 1 - Refresh phase

Player 1's Threat = 31.
Player 2's Threat = 22.

First player token is passed to Player 2 (Yes I know this might be confusing).

Round 2 - Resource phase

Player 1 draws Daeron's Runes and Player 2 draws Hail of Stones.

Round 2 - Planning phase

Player 1 plays Daeron's Runes, drawing Miner of the Iron Hills + Gleowine and discarding Protector of Lorien.
Player 2 plays Horn of Gondor on Frodo Baggins.
Player 1 exhausts Henamarth Riversong to look at the top card of the encounter deck (Storehouse).
Player 2 plays Unexpected Courage on Faramir.
Player 1 plays Gleowine.

Horn is good on a Spirit character as Bifur can leech resources if need be.

Round 2 - Quest phase

Player 2 commits Glordindel and Frodo Baggins.
Player 1 commits Bifur and Faramir (Readied using Unexpected Courage).

Encounter deck reveals Storehouse (Underworld card put beneath it) and A Knife in the Back surging into A Knife in the Back surging into Unwelcome Discovery (Underworld card added to the staging area is Zealous Traitor) surging into Storehouse (Underworld card put beneath it).

Willpower of 9 to a threat of 9.

Player 1 exhausts Thror's Map to set Storehouse as the active location.
Player 2 plays Hands Upon the Bow, exhausting Legolas to kill Zealous Traitor, 2 progress tokens are put on Storehouse, it is explored, Underworld card added to staging area is Lossarnach Bandit, 1 resource token is put on Stage 1 (1/4).

Round 2 - Travel phase

Travel to Sewers.

Round 2 - Encounter phase

Player 1 engages Lossarnach Bandit (1 resource discarded from Bifur).

Round 2 - Combat phase

Gleowine blocks Lossarnach Bandit, Shadow card is Underworld Dissident (No effect), Gleowine is killed (1 resource is put on Frodo Baggins).
Aragorn and Faramir attack Lossarnach Bandit, it is dealt 2 damage.
Frodo Baggins pays 1 resource to put 1 resource on Bifur.

Round 2 - Refresh phase

Player 1's Threat = 32.
Player 2's Threat = 23.
First player token is passed to Player 1.

Round 3 - Resource phase

Player 1 draws White Tower Watchman and Player 2 draws Rider of the Mark.

Round 3 - Planning phase

Player 1 exhausts Henamarth Riversong to look at the top card of the encounter deck (A Knife in the Back).
Player 1 plays Protector of Lorien on Bifur.
Player 1 plays White Tower Watchman.
Player 1 plays Miner of the Iron Hills.
Player 1 plays Erebor Hammersmith, returning Protector of Lorien to his hand.
Player 2 plays West Road Traveller.

Round 3 - Quest phase

Player 1 commits Bifur and Faramir (Readied using Unexpected Courage).
Player 2 commits Glorfindel and West Road Traveller.

Encounter deck reveals A Knife in the Back (Selected ally is Henamarth Riversong, Bifur is dealt 1 damage, 1 resource is put on Frodo Baggins) and Sewers (Underworld card put beneath both Sewers).

Willpower of 9 to a threat of 8 = 1 progress token is put on Sewers, it is explored, Underworld cards added to the staging area are A Scrap of History and A Prisoner, 1 resource token is put on Stage 1 (2/4).
Player 1 exhausts Aragorn to claim A Prisoner, add it to the Victory Display and put 2 resource tokens on Stage 1 (4/4).
Stage 2 is revealed, randomly selected plot is Poisoned Counsels and Roots of Mindolluin is set as the active location (Underworld card put beneath it).
Player 1 exhausts Thror's Map to set Storehouse as the active location.

2 objectives out of 3 were under those Sewers. Now I have to watch my threat but that's the purpose of Aragorn. Just need to be careful not to overuse Frodo.

Round 3 - Travel phase

No travel.

Round 3 - Encounter phase

Nothing happens.

Round 3 - Combat phase

Erebor Hammersmith blocks Lossarnach Bandit, Shadow card is Lost in the City (Entire hand is discarded), Erebor Hammersmith is dealt 2 damage.
Legolas and Miner of the Iron Hills attack and kill Lossarnach Bandit, 2 progress tokens are put on Storehouse, it is explored, Underworld card added to the staging area is Pickpocket, 1 resource token is put on Stage 2 (1/4).
Player 2 exhausts Glorfindel to claim A Scrap of History, add it to the Victory Display and put 1 resource token on Stage 2 (2/4).

Lost in the City is bad, whether as an encounter or a Shadow card. In that case, it hurts a lot.

Round 3 - Refresh phase

Player 1's Threat = 35.
Player 2's Threat = 26.
First player token is passed to Player 2.

Round 4 - Resource phase

Player 1 draws Gandalf and Player 2 draws Westfold Horse-Breaker.

Gandalf should help to refill the hand but not enough resources this round.

Round 4 - Planning phase

Player 2 plays Rohan Warhorse on Legolas.
Player 2 plays Westfold Horse-Breaker.

Round 4 - Quest phase

Player 2 commits Glorfindel, Frodo Baggins, West Road Traveller
Player 1 commits Bifur, Faramir (Readied using Unexpected Courage) and Aragorn.

Encounter deck reveals Houses of the Dead (Last Underworld card put beneath it) and False Lead.

Round 4 - Travel phase

Travel to Roots of Mindolluin.
Player 2 plays Hail of Stones, exhausting Glorfindel and Westfold Horse-Breaker to kill Pickpocket.
Player 1 exhausts Thror's Map to set Houses of the Dead as the active location (All characters are exhausted).
Player 2 pays 1 resource from Frodo Baggins to put 1 resource on Bifur.

Won't find a better timing to travel to Houses of the Dead with no enemies in the staging area.

Round 4 - Encounter phase

Nothing happens.

Round 4 - Combat phase

Nothing happens.

Round 4 - Refresh phase

Player 1's Threat = 38.
Player 2's Threat = 29.
First player token is passed to Player 1.

Round 5 - Resource phase

Player 1 draws Haldir of Lorien and Player 2 draws Hasty Stroke.

Player 1 plays Asfaloth on Glorfindel.
Player 2 pays 1 resource from Glorfindel to put 1 resource on Bifur.
Player 2 plays Henamarth Riversong to look at the top card of the encounter deck (Local Trouble).

Round 5 - Quest phase

Player 1 commits Bifur, Faramir (Readied using Unexpected Courage) and Gandalf.
Player 2 commits Glorfindel, Frodo Baggins and West Road Traveller.

Encounter deck reveals Local Trouble (Attached to Aragorn) and Underworld Dissident.

Willpower of 15 to a threat of 11 = 4 progress tokens are put on Houses of the Dead, it is explored, Underworld card added to the staging area is Zealous Traitor, 1 resource token is put on Stage 2 (3/4).

Round 5 - Quest phase

Travel to Roots of Mindolluin.
Player 2 discards Westfold Horse-Breaker to ready Frodo Baggins (1 resource is put on him).
Player 2 plays Ride to Ruin to discard West Road Traveller and put 3 progress tokens on Roots of Mindolluin (1 resource is put on Frodo Baggins).

I was about to lose those allies to Zealous Traitor anyway.

Round 5 - Encounter phase

Player 2 engages Zealous Traitor.
Player 1 engages Underworld Dissident.

Round 5 - Combat phase

Erebor Hammersmith blocks Underworld Dissident (Shadow card is Underworld Dissident), Erebor Hammersmith is killed (1 resource is put on Frodo Baggins).

Round 6 - Planning phase

Player 2 plays Rider of the Mark.
Player 2 pays 1 resource from Legolas to put 1 resource on Bifur.
Player 1 plays Haldir of Lorien.

Round 6 - Quest phase

Player 2 commits Glorfindel and Frodo Baggins.
Player 1 commits Bifur, Faramir (Readied using Unexpected Courage) and Haldir of Lorien.

Encounter deck reveals Sewers and Market Square.
Player 1 exhausts Thror's Map to set Sewers as the active location.
Player 1 discards Elf-Stone and Forest Snare to Protector of Lorien to add +2 Willpower to Bifur.

Willpower of 13 to a threat of 14 = Player 1's threat to 42 and Player 2's threat to 33.

The 15 needed progress tokens will be tough to gain. Too bad Market Square is immune to Thror's Map. Forest Snare is less useful vs Daughter.

Round 6 - Travel phase

No travel.
Player 2 exhausts Asfaloth to put 2 progress tokens on Sewers.

Round 6 - Encounter phase

Player 2 engages Zealous Traitor (1 damage is dealt to Rider of the Mark).

Player 1's Threat = 45.
Player 2's Threat = 37.
Player 1 uses Aragorn's ability to reset his threat to 30.
Player 1's Threat = 32.
Player 2's Threat = 39.

Round 7 - Resource phase

Player 1 draws Thror's Map and Player 2 draws Feint.

Round 7 - Planning phase

Nothing happens.

Round 7 - Quest phase

Player 1 commits Aragorn (Player 1's threat to 33), Faramir (Readied using Unexpected Courage), Bifur, Henamarth Riversong and Haldir of Lorien.
Player 2 commits Glordindel and Frodo Baggins.

At this point, there are 4 cards left in the encounter deck and because of the surging madness, I know I'll see them all.

Encounter deck reveals City Street surging into City Street surging into Lurking in Shadows (Zealous Traitor is returned to the staging area) and Lurking in Shadows (Encounter deck is reshuffled) surging into Underworld Dissident.

Player 1 exhausts Thror's Map to set City Street as the active location.
Player 1 discards Thror's Map to add +1 Willpower to Bifur.

Willpower of 15 to a threat of 13 = 2 progress tokens are put on City Street, it is explored.

Round 7 - Refresh phase

Player 1's threat to 37.
Player 2's threat to 42.
First player token is passed to Player 2.

Round 8 - Resource phase

Player 1 draws Rumour from the Earth and Player 2 draws The Riddermark's Finest.

Round 8 - Planning phase

Player 1 plays Rumour from the Earth, top card is Daughter of Beruthiel, 1 resource is paid to return Rumour from the Earth to Player 2's hand.
Player 2 plays The Riddermark's Finest.

I think the Villains should be put in the Victory Display, maybe we'll see an errata at some point but for now, gotta deal with her... again!

Round 8 - Quest phase

Player 2 commits Glordindel and Frodo Baggins.
Player 1 commits Aragorn (Player 1's threat to 33), Faramir (Readied using Unexpected Courage), Bifur, Henamarth Riversong and Haldir of Lorien.

Faramir (Player 1's threat to 39), Glorfindel and Legolas attack and kill Daughter of Beruthiel, 2 progress tokens are put on Stage 3 = GAME OVER!

In case you didn't notice, if I didn't have Hasty Stroke, it's game over because all 13 tokens are removed from the quest card and I'm not sure I would have been able to survive this because of Player 2's threat.

Final score

Player 1's threat = 39 = 39.
Player 2's threat = 46 = 46.
7 complete rounds = 70.
6 wounds = 6.
-2 VPs.

159

Great scenario, a bit long sometimes but again, very impressed with how FFG integrates the theme with the gameplay.

FYI - Thror's Map received errata restricting its use only to the Travel Phase, so you can't use it to pull locations out of the staging area before resolving the questing phase as you've described herein.

Wow. Missed that one. I think that kills every victory I have had with this scenario.
