Welcome Kickstarter Backers!

Also...

Welcome ALL fans of Police Precinct!

We think it might be a good idea to have a central place (this thread) where someone could go if they were interested in looking at how things were changing as we move...

From the...

1st Edition

To the...

2nd Edition!

So we are going to examine the game and it's evolution herein.

Thanks!

Karl

Thanks in advance for checking this out and for any participation you might offer in this or any of the related threads!

SUMMARY OF CHANGES TO THE BASE-GAME:

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

Let's start with...

ALL THE BOARDS

Let's start this section out with...

THE MAIN BOARD:

Yes, it is changing!

This will happen in a couple different ways...

A. (front)

In this case "A" stands for "Appearance". The board's appearance is changing. This was done by the talented Katie (our Creative Director). Take a look...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Board_Ma...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

Or...

Visit the 12-Days Celebration link for this item here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221368/main-boards-one-12-d...

B. (back)

In this case "B" stands for "B-side". Ole has designed an alternative version of Commonville. This will go on the back-side of the board.

It will be, not only different, but more difficult, which is great for experienced players who want increased levels of challenge and/or more replayability.

To describe The B-Side, we coined the name "The Unterbelly." Our made-up compound word is rooted in English and German and means "more difficult" / "Darker" / "more crime-ridden". In short "The seedier side of things."

With the aid of some tools provided by Katie, the Graphic Design for this side was done by our own Chuck Crouse (The Brand Manager for SNITCH). To get a glimpse of The Unterbelly go here...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Board_Un...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

Now moving on to...

THE MURDER INVESTIGATION BOARD:

No, it did not change much (with one notable spelling correction excepted)!

Here it is...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Murder-b...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

Or...

Visit the 12-Days Celebration link for this item here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221360/small-boards-one-12-...

The few changes that did occur are thanks to Jeff who couldn't keep his mitts off this one. As he explained it to us, "there's always been a few little things that I wanted to change about this board."

Thanks Jeff!

Now moving on to...

THE CRIME TRACK BOARD:

Yes, this item did change!

Here it is...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Crime-Tr...

Or...

Visit the 12-Days Celebration link for this item here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221360/small-boards-one-12-...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

More about the changes in this item...

It all started with Jeff Brzozowski, The Grandfather of the 2nd Edition, who made a really cool Crime Track for Police Precinct (that's actually how we here at Common Man Games got to know him).

THEN (many months later)...

We asked him if he wanted to change it again (because much has happened since) to reflect the total direction/evolution of the 2nd Edition, and that we wanted to use it in the production. He said that he would be happy to be involved and came up with two cool versions of the track.

In the feedback we got from the community, BOTH were really popular, so we figured...

Why not publish both!

To this end, we are making this item two-sided.

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

Now moving on to...

ALL THE DECKS

Let's start this section out with...

THE EVENT DECK:

Yes, it is changing!

This will happen in ONLY one way...

The look and feel of the card-fronts is changing... YES!

to be clear...

The look and feel of the card-backs is NOT changing... NO WAY!

This being the case because we are purposely deigning compatibility into Police Precinct such that all versions of the game (1st Edition and 2nd Edition) will be compatible with all expansionary items for the game game made in the past or that will-be made in the future.

Here they are...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Events-G...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

(When you go to the above link, what you see is actually ALL the Event Cards that we are about to print, some are for the base-game, while others are expansionary items associated with Stretch Goals from the Kickstarter)

Or...

Visit the 12-Days Celebration link for this item here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221364/event-deck-one-12-da...

One aspect of the way this deck is changing involves things we are doing to help players who are colorblind (to one extent or another). To learn more about this particular aspect, go here...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1033306/colorblindness-help

If you want to see who is getting their name on a card, go here...

http://boardgamegeek.com/article/14446206#14446206

Now moving on to...

THE PLAYER AID CARDS:

Yes, they are changing!

This will happen in every way possible...

The look and feel of the cards is changing... YES!

What is said on the cards has also changed a bit too.

The best way to see this card is to visit the 12-Days page here...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221367/player-aid-one-12-da...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

Now moving on to...

THE LOYALTY DECK:

Yes, it is changing!

This will happen in every way possible...

The look and feel of the cards is changing... YES!

And...

What is said on the cards did also change a bit.

Once again, the best way to see this item is to visit the 12-Days page here...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221358/loyalty-deck-one-12-...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

Now moving on to...

THE INVESTIGATION DECKS:

Yes, they are going to change.

We actually didn't expect this to happen, but in the end, we did make some small, but pretty cool little changes.

And...

Once again!

The best way to view this item is by going to the 12-Days Page. This will let you hear what these small changes are, AND to see the cards...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221372/investigation-deck-o...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

Side Note:

These decks AND the Murder Investigation Board are items that will be removed from the game and replaced with other components when playing certain NEW Episodes in Season Two. Stay tuned for details!

Now moving on to...

THE GANG DECK:

No, they are not really going to change, but..

Some very minor tweaks were done.

Here they are...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Gang-Dec...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

Or...

Visit the 12-Days Celebration link for this item here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221373/police-gang-decks-on...

Now moving on to...

THE POLICE CARD DECK:

No, the Police Cards didn't really change, just some very minor tweaks.

Here they are...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/PoliceDe...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

Now moving on to...

ALL TOKEN SHEET ITEMS

Let's start this section out with...

SHEET A:

Did it change?

Yes, a bit, and in several different ways.

Here it is...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/TokenShe...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

Or...

Visit the 12-Days Celebration link for this item here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221365/token-sheets-one-12-...

A little about the changes...

This particular sheet used to be one-sided. It is now going to be two-sided, which is one aspect of how it is changing.

With this change, NONE of the tokens in the game will be one-sided anymore. This sheet contains a wide range of items such as Donuts, Punks, Character Upgrades, etc.

Now moving on to...

SHEET B:

Did it change?

Yes, a bit, and in several different ways.

Here it is...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/TokenShe...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

Or...

Visit the 12-Days Celebration link for this item here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221365/token-sheets-one-12-...

This sheet contains only two items; Unknown Circumstances and Vehicles. Speaking of vehicles...

They now feature easier to read names and new lights.

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

Now moving on to...

MISCELLANEOUS

(Meaning "ALL THE OTHER STUFF")

Let's start this section out with...

THE RULEBOOK:

Changing?

OMG Yes!

Here it is on Drop box...

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2gyy0omjuor2i8b/AAAuGaIQQa9SS8th8...

(the above link takes you to the final version)

Or...

Visit the 12-Days Celebration link for this item here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221374/rule-book-one-12-day...

btw - Drop box is about the only way we could (easily) show it to you. It's such a big file we were not allowed to put it on our website, but drop box works great, so there you have it!

Back to the topic of "Change"...

As for "how much" it changed, then we need to get on the same page about "what rulebook is the starting point?"

If you want to discuss change in terms of the original rulebook that came with the 1st Edition, then...

WOW... YES!!!

It is changing dramatically!

But if you are talking about the Revised rulebook which is Part of The Kit, then NO, it is NOT changing all that much. It will be VERY similar to that book, which is a good thing because the revised rulebook has been described over-and-over with this phrase...

"WOW, this is 100 times better!" In fact it was featured on a Dice Tower show as an example of how to improve a rulebook!

We would like to take a brief moment to look at the...

CREDITS
If you go here...
http://boardgamegeek.com/article/14040234#14040234
You will find what we call the "Living Credits". It lists many great contributors without whom this game would not be what it is today!
(nor would it exist at all)
Thank YOU!
All of you!!!

LIVING CREDITS:
More about the "Living Credits"...
If you have contributed to the game in some way since this rulebook was finalized then this is where your name should appear. As a matter of fact if you have EVER contributed to this game...
This is where your name should appear.
It's THE Official Living Credits for Police Precinct!
We keep it up-to-date and whenever it's time to go to print again, we pull all the names from there.
Many people have come together to make this game what it is today, and we have done our level best to give credit where credit is due.
btw - if YOU are one of these folks who made so much possible, please feel free to check to be sure YOU are listed in there somewhere!

If NOT, let us know so that we can correct this and make you a part of future production runs of this game.
On the other hand, if you have not yet gotten involved with the game in some way and you are interested in doing so, GREAT!
We welcome this and say... "Please let us know of your interest and we will work with you to figure out the best way for YOU to contribute."
On that note, we try to foster a very welcoming community around our games because we believe that...

It takes a village to raise a good game!

Now moving on to...

THE BOX:

Yes, it is changing!

Let's look at those changes, but first take a peak...

Also see the...

FLATTENED VERSION OF THE TOP:

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/x2014-09...

Also see the...

FLATTENED VERSION OF THE BOTTOM:

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/x14-09-1...

(BOTH of the above links take you to the final versions)

Or...

Visit the 12-Days Celebration link for this item here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221371/box-one-12-days-poli...

Ok, back to those changes we mentioned...

A. Notice that the Logo, though very similar to the 1st Edition, now contains the words "Second Edition". Fans of the game made it very clear that they wanted to be able to easily tell which version they where looking at (or holding in their hands in a store, etc.).

B. Also notice that the overall appearance of the box has changed a bit to better fit the overall appearance of the 2nd Edition in it's entirety.

C. Another thing to notice is the easy to spot and read Unique triangle-shaped icons for number of players, game-length, and age recommendation.

Here is some more info on the box...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221371/box-one-12-days-poli...

Wait!

Let's not forget the writing contest!...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1230480/writing-contest-13th...

Now moving on to...

CHARACTER TILES:

Yes, the characters are changing!

Let's look at those changes, but first take a peak...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Characte...

(the above link take you to the final version)

Or...

Visit the 12-Days Celebration link for this item here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221362/characters-one-12-da...

Ok, back to those changes we mentioned...

The biggest change is likely that, with each individual character card...

We now feature a male on one side, and a female on the other. This one aspect will double the number of characters in the game (from 8 up to 16), and means more NEW art from George!

I good way to get more info on this is by going here...

http://boardgamegeek.com/article/15974923#15974923

Another aspect of this is that we are trying to use REAL COPS!

If you want to learn more about "The Real Cops Behind the Game", go here...

and...
Here is an explanation of WHY we handled him this way...
http://boardgamegeek.com/article/16132360#16132360

Now moving on to...

THE GAME CAPSULES:

Yes, this is an area that has changed, in that...

Before the game had NO Game Capsules, and now it has TWO!

The best we to provide detail on this is via the 12-Days page here...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1221359/game-capsules-one-12...

(the above link take you to the final version)

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

SPECS:

Beyond what you might be able to grasp from viewing the images we have provided via the links listed above, there are a few other changes worth mentioning. Things like the fact that we are shooting for getting round Donuts this time around.

Want to know more about these sorts of things?

Check it out...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1233207/specs-print-run-anyb...

COMPLETENESS:

Yes, it did take a while to log it all in, but...

This list is very complete!

meaning that this particular post does carefully detail every part of the game including links, special notes, and more.

DISCLAIMER:
We summed it up pretty well over here...
http://boardgamegeek.com/article/16898994#16898994

UPDATES:

We have been (for a long time now) literally updating this post several times a day every day with new info and status changes, but...
This should slow down to a large degree now that we have finished the game and are sending it along to the factory (this being written on Sept 15, 2014).
That said, this thread will likely receive an update from time to time as things unfold with the 2nd Edition, so...
Stay Tuned!

EXTRA STUFF THAT'S PART OF THE BIG PRODUCTION-RUN:

This involves listing out items that are NOT going to be included in the retail version of the game, but that someone might be interested in if they were interested in the 2nd Edition.

All of these items have one thing in common, which is that they are going to be produced as part of the big production-run being done for the 2nd Edition.

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

Alright then, let's get started by mentioning that we will be printing MORE Mad Men Cards. We had a seemingly unlimited supply at one point due to a factory error, but...

Sometimes even "unlimited supplies" run out.

The demand for these cards as gone beyond what we had expected initially. Sooooooo...

We're printing more!

Now, moving on to the main "Extra-Stuff" item, which is a booster-pack style expansion for Police Precinct known affectionately as...

Crooked Lawyers:

It involves several Event Cards, along with some extra Evidence Cards. 26 cards in all!!!

All the Event Cards are NEW and UNIQUE!

Here is a bit of info on a few of them...

NAKED MAN: (Event Card)

Yes, there really is going to be a naked man in the game!

Here's the scoop on him (taken right from the 2E KS page)...

"He will be the focus of a Special Event Card (or a green Emergency possibly). We would likely NOT include this IN the game, but rather tape the card to the outside of the box (and extra copies shall be made to later make available to 1st Edition owners and used as a promo-card at shows, etc.).
Credit goes to the reviewer known as "The Chief" (who is a real cop), who once told a funny real-life story of a naked guy running in traffic (which inspired this card).
(This item will go to ALL backers who pledged to receive the 2nd Edition.)"

CROOKED LAWYERS: (Event Card)
Inspired by Dan King!
The idea with this card, and will all the other extra Event Cards, is that this would be a bonus extra Stretch Goal tossed in for the backers as a gesture of the love the creator has for those who made this Edition possible. Thus, beyond anything promised during the campaign.

Some of the other cards involve guest appearances from the likes of Sir Richard Launius!

Take a look at all these cards...

http://www.commonman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Events-G...

(note that the above PDF include BOTH the entire Event Card Deck AND the Crooked Lawyers Expansion aspect, which starts on page 77 and goes through page 90.)

Also note that some of the cards for this series came from YOU (BGG users) via a contest we held here...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1191196/design-an-event-card

Thanks to all who played a role in this!!!

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

(note that the post you see here is kept current to the best of our ability.

OTHER "STUFF" (ADDITIONS) NOT PART OF THE MAIN PRODUCTION-RUN:

This involves listing out items of interest to fans of the game that are NOT going to be (for whatever reason) part of the big upcoming production run.

You know...

MORE "stuff" you might want to get if you were getting the 2nd Edition.

Sound good?

Alright then, let's get started with...

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

CUSTOM DICE:

Yes, there is such a thing as custom dice for Police Precinct, in fact...

Two types!

TYPE A -- CHESSEX

For details, official news, and updates on availability, go here...

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgameaccessory/158832/police-pr...

More about "Type A"...

It is a very cool die, and turned out to be a big favorite among fans of the game shortly after the release of the 1st Edition of Police Precinct.

It never would have been possible without Cindy Nowak who handled the who thing on her own. At the time she was "just" a fan of the game. Cindy has since become an important part of CMG in several ways. Thanks Cindy for all you do!

If this particular die is to be resurrected it will likely be something that we (CMG) handle this time around. It's made in the USA by Chessex.

As we wrap-up the delivery of files to our factory, one of our top priorities at that point will be looking into the logistics of getting these dice made. So...

Stay tuned and cross your fingers!

And...

TYPE B -- JAZZY

This die is still being designed, and you can impact one on it's development right now!

http://boardgamegeek.com/article/16353971#16353971

btw - That link takes you to the (current) end of an on-going conversation about this die with the graphic designer. Please feel free to join-in on this process and impact where things are going.

More about "Type B"...

It's being designed by Jazzy Bear and is part of the reward system of the Dice-driven Kickstarter run by John Warren of Custom Game Lab.

We are very excited about this dice and supportive of the project, but ultimately we have very little control over this.

That said, it is possible that CGL and CMG can cut some sort of deal that will allow us (CMG) to offer this dice somehow as part of the fulfillment of the Police Precinct 2nd Edition rewards to our Kickstarter backers.

This is in the works right now, but the final result will not be known for some time, but please do...

Stay tuned and cross your fingers!

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

MISC / OTHER:

Not sure what-all will end up under this heading, but let's start with...

CARD SLEEVES:

Yes (thank goodness), and thanks to Seth at Mayday...

We DO now have card sleeves for Police Precinct!!!

thumbsupthumbsupthumbsup

Or maybe I should say we will soon!

cry

Actually, we are not 100% sure what the status is, because it sounded like they would be here in May maybe, but here it is almost July and the link we have...

maydaygames.com/police-precinct-card-sleeves.html (not sure why this is not a live link, but if you paste it into your browser it should work fine)

Still indicates Pre-order, so...

Not sure, but...

We are checking with Mayday now to see the status, and will report back our findings here, so stay tuned!

Having these custom sleeves is very important to owners of the game because the larger cards (Event Cards etc) are a very odd size, and hard to get sleeves for.

For those trying to line up your card sleeves, here is some helpful info...

One $2.25 package of 100 of the card sleeves from Mayday will cover the whole game for the big cards. They are the only odd-ball sized cards (at 2 5/8" X 3 1/2", they are 1/8" taller than a standard poker card)

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

(note that the list shown above is considered complete as of right now, but yes we will be adding to it items that fit this criteria as they come into the picture, so stay tuned)

While I have NO experience with the 1st edition (hence, my backing the 2nd), the fact that the Design Team are making changes suggests to me that they are taking full advantage of this opportunity to improve the game.

That, my friends, is a secret to long term success. thumbsup

On Top are the Old Vehicles (with white text)

Then...

Underneath that are the NEW Vehicles (with yellow text)...

Note: This is the way the vehicles will appear on the token sheets, including bleeds and punch lines.

Tell us what you think...

Poll
When it comes to the 2nd Edition Vehicles I feel like...
The old version is great so please don't change them.
Either one is fine.
They could benefit from a slightly larger font size and the change to yellow text is nice, so the new ones are great as-is!
They could benefit from a change to help make them easier to read, but I'm not sure I love the new version, so I will suggest something below.
They could benefit from a change of some kind, but I'm not sure there is any issue with reading them, and I will suggest an idea below.

I think they should have names on both side of the cars.

I don't know if it is just me, but the police cars look pretty generic and nothing is special about them. Could each car be different or unique for the player? I am used to each city having different color cars and even in the same department have different cars based upon what they do. Example: Regular police cars look like something and narcotics look like something else.

I do know it is too late in the stage to suggest stuff like this.

Hey Gabriel!

Great to hear from you!

The cop cars do have names on both sides.

What is shown here are only the marked squad cars.

The undercover cars on the other side are not shown in this image.

The cars you see here that don't have a name on them are the generic support vehicles used in smaller (Solo and 2-person) games.

As for the same-ness of them...

We felt like, with 20 total cop cars in game, that we should limit it to the two different types. Our thinking is that this is true to life, and a good fit for the base-game.

But fear not...

We do plan on coming out with a series of unique vehicles over time:

Motorcycle cops!

K9 Units!

SWAT (type) Units!

HQ Command Centers!

etc, etc!

So stay tuned on all that!

Thanks!

PS - Police Precinct is a world all it's own and it is constantly evolving, so NO it is NOT too late! Every great suggestion we get from folks like you helps shape that world!

Ole, Katie, and I are always listening!

Watch for Season Two coming soon for more of these fun add-on items!

(a major expansion for Police Precinct)

Thanks again!!!

Since we're on a roll...

Let's do another poll!

(hey that rhymes!)

Poll
Since there was a mistake made with the 1st Edition spelling of his name on his vehicle (which means that we can pick either spelling at this point), I prefer this spelling...
Detective Doug Pearce
Detective Doug Pierce
Either is fine

I meant on either side of the car. If you are sitting at a different position, you can read the name clearly from different angles.

Do not worry, I've been around snooping and voting perhaps not posting. whistle

I voted Pierce, and am citing a few of the great ones...

Abe E. Pierce, III (born 1934), African-American educator and mayor of Monroe, Louisiana

Franklin Pierce (1804–1869), the fourteenth President of the United States

Samuel Pierce (1922–2000), United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development 1981–1989

Bill Pierce (born 1948), American jazz saxophonist

Fictional character: Hawkeye Pierce, main character in M*A*S*H

Francis Junior Pierce (1924–1986), U.S. Navy Corpsman who received the Medal of Honor for actions in the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II

To me the cars really look nothing like police cars. I think they need to have a more obvious iconic red-and-blue flashing light on top to really make it clear. Something more like this one I found online:
