Hi fellow geeks,
we came up with a pretty simple but effective way to play this awesome kids game solo:

Play the game as you would with 2+ players - with just one exception: the auctions.

Whenever there is an auction, the player can make one (and only one) bid for the ship on auction. After the player has selected his cards, he draws a number of cards equal to the number of gems on that ship from the deck. Those cards are revealed and all matching cards (e.g. all shields and wilds for the blue ship) are counted. If the player has bid more matching cards than were revealed from the deck, he wins the auction and takes the gems. If the "game" won the auction those gems are removed from the game.

This way the game will end like it would in a multiplayer game as well (by running out of gems) and the player can try to maximize his score from game to game. Granted, not an ideal game to play dozens of times for the highscore (as your score will depend more on the luck of the draw than on anything else), but for a kid who wants to play it one more time after the geek parents have lost their interest it works pretty well .

Happy gaming,
Michael
