Before the recent RSP all-star thread thread I didn't even realize that BGG had a feature that lets you look up which threads have given you the most thumbs. I was pretty sure that mine would be this reply from back when Mayfair announced discount restrictions on folks carrying their products. Turns out I was almost right -- I got more thumbs for offering $1,000 in matching funds to one of Aldie's first end-of-year sponsor drives.

But that got me thinking. Sure, some posts get a lot of thumbs and suck. I think they call that forum Chit Chat or something. But one some level at least a really big thumb tally means someone wrote something that was either very funny or that a bunch of people felt was useful.

So show me your thumbs. What thread or reply got you the most thumbs in all your BGG posting?

For all of BGG, it would be my comments on Formula D.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/4141954#4141954

For just RSP, it would my thread where I dissed the Tea Party.

Top 10, coming at you:

My biggest thumb haul was for a not particularly funny one-liner that just happened to be one of the first replies in what would become a widely read thread.

Second was this one, which borders on RSP topics but apparently people generally agreed with. Making fun of someone who objected to the use of pentagrams in Small World.

This one was from arguing with one of the worst of the main-site posters, Clearclaw. For context, he's arguing that John Bohrer was totally justified in looking up a users employment to publicly shame him for not following through on a pre-order. I was arguing that it was creepy.

This bit of personal oversharing got me my biggest RSP response. (Don't get excited, it's just me announcing I'm going back to school.)

Fifth, a rules argument in the Small World boards with one of the stupidest, stubbornest, most ridiculous rules lawyers I've ever met. This guy got me banned twice for insulting him. Once about three hours after I was unbanned for insulting him the first time.

Sixth, comic genius.

Seventh (tie) is recent, and not even an attempt at being funny. Thoughts on the death penalty that resonated for whatever reason.

Seventh (tie) part two, fairly recent, in Ben's thread about that asshole who tried "affluenza" as a criminal defense.

Ninth is more comedy. Tacos and white people, can't miss comedy gold.

And a three way tie at 39 thumbs for tenth place. Misogyny in the W&G forum, oversimplification in a recent-ish thread about evolution, and half-defending ejmowrer in a Steubenville thread.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, my post in "Lady Gaming" delivered the largest thumb haul. Since I only regularly post in RSP, this is the winner by a fairly wide margin because it drew in some outside attention.

That's not my favorite post. This selection from "[poll] Concealed weapons being allowed in the theater would have...." is the one I enjoy rereading the most.

My most thumbed thread and reply on the site is This play report about Sturm Europa, which I got to try a few years ago at BGG.con with kuhrusty and fatgreta. Actually, most of my most-thumbed threads/replies tend to be about kuhrusty, which almost feels like cheating. Like this one, or this one.

On RSP, these two recent comments are my highest:

Son's GF is moving back

League of Angels isn't even pretending anymore

Oops, this one is from RSP too: I did something stupid and don't know how to fix it. (I had mistakenly assumed that was a kuhrusty thread before clicking on it...)

EDITed because my reply made no sense but I'm seeing the threads where I announced I got married and from when we had our first daughter. The feel the love thread doesn't count in my mind.

EDIT:
There one about my younger daughter being born too.

The two top thumb posts I got were for geeklist comments that no longer exists. I guess they were good, whatever they were

Of the existing items, this post chronicles kuhrusty's soul being crushed by sabreredleg.

The next one was of kuhrusty's tears during High Frontier at BGG 2013.

Maybe I should start a blog during BGG.con 2014: The Triumph and Tears of Kuhrusty.

Wow. I didn't know you could do this either. Chapel must spend 3 or 4 hours a day using this utility to monitor his thumb count and self-proclaimed status as everyone's favorite BGG OG.

It appears my geek list from 7 years ago where I mock Euro gamers by pretending to be a mock Euro gamer is the top haul for me. 267 plus a few GG ain't half bad.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/19146/how-i-became-a-e...

Then there was this General gaming thread that garnered about 185 thumbs:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/273475/please-no-more-wi...

There's a ton of comments that are defined as articles that surprised me when I saw how popular they were. Lists are always interesting. Now if I could just figure out how to discover who owns the tags at the top of the threads I'd be content.

Across all of BGG, my greatest thumb haul was from an amusing summary of RoboRally for the Geeklist "________________ in 5 seconds":

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/138011/item/2060604#it...

As far as RSP, my top comment was this exasperated jab at people on both sides who were insisting on turning every thread into a referendum on libertarianism:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/13753574#13753574

Next up is poking fun at DDJ for actually making use of sarcasm/satire:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/11219390#11219390

The make-up of RSP being what it is, you have to go down quite a ways to find posts expressing any conservative opinions that got any reasonable number of thumbs.

Odd that my best-thumbed contributions are really not my favorites.

168 thumbs for: No, really, this armor will TOTALLY protect me from...uhhh...hmmm...
...a good geeklist, but not great.

I really think I had a much better job with the 88-thumb: How to Attract a Male to your Gaming Group (a parody of: How to Attract a Female to your Gaming Group)

Same issue with threads. 80 thumbs for: How to cheat your wargame pics past Geekmod, SERIOUSLY?

And I assure you that I DO NOT cry myself to sleep every night because my most thumbed picture is a...a...I can hardly say it...a EURO game.

GAH! I shudder. And when I've got so dang many great wargame pics...

ANYWAY - best in RSP, for me? 35 for a comment in: "Hey Dar, shut up" zombie

Top 5 for RSP:

In which (the aforementioned LightSarcastic thread) somebody said something racist in Walmart

In which The Kat and Chapel have it out for no good reason at all

In which someone's Bible study/block party pissed off the neighbors and it became that week's END OF CIVILIZATION

In which I took a rare moment not to be an asshole

In which DC Comics needs to read RSP more often

Top 5 non-RSP:

In which internecine religious genocide is hilarious

In which I find a great many of my posts feature poo-flinging monkeys

In which my awesome, take-no-prisoners, take-a-HUGE-bite-out-of-life, irrepressible daughter is born

In which we scare off the straights

In which I post while drunk (or stone-cold sober, either way)

My reviews of various ACW games are my top thumb generators. I'm not sure whether you want the post to have the thumb or the thread - if it's the thread, they win hands down.

Once you get beyond the reviews, it's this response to "We Lost One of Our Own Yesterday."

In general gaming,
A comment recommending a game hoarder play his games at least 3 times before buying new games as a way of controlling his out of control impulse to buy new games.

On geeklists,
Quote:
Claustrophobia was an interesting lad. He did about the same work as Space Hulk in about half the time. True, Clause did lack some of the intricate master touches that the older S.H. brought to the table.

For some reason, S.H. spent 15 minute setting up his area every time and another half hour shutting down before he left each time. On the other hand, Claus took about 5 minutes to get started each time and about 5 minutes to close up shop. While Clause wasn't as comprehensive as S.H., He did over twice as much of what he did do.

However, the final straw was really the day that Spacehulk started randomly punching potential customers because they were "taking pictures of him".

and in RSP...
Quote:
Libertarians (having been one) engage in magical thinking.

They ignore the fact that a libertarian system collapses quickly to an oligarchy. The strong walk all over the weak.

What's to stop them EXCEPT for a strong government? (which violates their basic concept of libertarian philosophy).

The recent EPA discussion applies.

Despite clear evidence that rivers burned and people died from smog in the absence of a strong government agency- Ron Paul wants to disempower or eliminate the EPA.

The better answer is any cost of running the EPA should come from companies which work with toxic chemicals. The full cost of making those chemicals should be included in their price. Unlike the toxins of the 50's which merely set rivers on fire- some of the more recent toxins since the 80's basically render the land unusable for several generations. And companies continue to engage in this level of pollution DESPITE having a strong EPA.

Similar in every other area. Without a strong government to protect you, strong individuals will pown you in a libertarian society.
