Wonder what the limited edition peices look like. Cards art is mediocre but the board could be much worse.

I was hoping the cards would be colored, but okay. My fears were the same about Study in Emerald, but turns out I didn't mind too much. Ah well.

I think the map is even worse than the cards. Totally boring and flavorless.

The board I don't mind too much. I don't know what I expected there.

I think that map looks cool. It looks like a map you'd find at the beginning of an older young adult fantasy novel, like The Hobbit or The Phantom Tollbooth.

Wasn't the point of making it fantasy to appeal to people who want alot of theme?

That looks boring and dry, pass.

I read these forum comments before looking at the pics. I was worried I wouldn't like them, but in fact I think they look just fine! They could certainly be better, but I think I will still jump on this game when I can. I love A Few Acres of Snow, so I can't wait for a similar game that plays a higher count.

Not bad, not great. Perfectly mediocre.

...And good enough for my needs since art is always secondary to game play for me.

A Few Acres of Snow had plenty of theme. I think "the point" of making it fantasy was to free the designer from the shackles of history.

Either way it's a huge missed opportunity.

The map seems functional and it's more colourful than Brass/Age of Industry. But we should consider pieces on it (tiles or limited edition wooden pieces). I assume that it will shine with all components on it. It's not 3D rendering whatsoever.

I also hoped for cards in colour, but as beig said, his type of art worked well in Study in Emerald, it will work in Mythotopia as well.

Can't wait to get this one.

I like them. Yes, they are simple, but the art itself it's ok and it should fit the theme. Nothing mind blowing, but still ok. Can't wait to play it.

Shipping in september makes me think though. Should we expect next two games (Ships and Onword to Venus) to be ready in time for Essen? Christmas? Next year? We really like to hear some info about that...

I am really happy that they went with a simpler presentation for the cards. I think it suits the theme and, more importantly, it won't create too much of a visual jumble against the brightly colored wooden bits etc.

I actually like it quite a lot! I find the card abilities interesting and the whole art feel a little 80s, the glorious days of AD&D!

Does anyone know if we will be able to preorder it outside of the (now closed) subscription? Or will it be first come first serve in Essen Fair?

I would say the art is above par for Wallace. Usually his games are ugly as heck. A Few Acres of Snow is one of my favorite games. This one's an instabuy.

Haven't you people heard? Brown is the new Black.

I find the art admittedly underwhelming. But it's not garish like the board art for A Study in Emerald. And that is an excellent game, art notwithstanding.

I think the style looks great. The board is very reminiscent of the maps from Tolken books, and the cards have a lovely medieval / rustic feel to them. What I'm really impressed with is the clarity of the design. Everything looks incredibly easy to read and understand. The coloured icons stand out, and the feature text on the cards and the board is crystal clear and quickly readable, without taking away from the essence of the artwork.

Another pro vote here - I really like the parchment look it has. I wouldn't want every game to look like this, but there's something to be said for this style occasionally.

Only people I see happy with the look is people who already play these types of games, which pretty much proves my point. No one that doesn't play these types of games has jumped in and gained interested.
