It's obvious which thread I'm talking about I suspect- namechange and OP changed way after the thread started (more than a week).

I consider it bad form, but I was mostly querying if there's any policy on this? Because it's pretty disruptive.

Personally, I'd ban all edits more than half an hour afterwards, but I'm an extremist.

And if it's bad form, should there be consequences?

Posters are in complete control of their posts. BGG won't have it any other way, nor should it.

If you wish to preserve the original text, quote it.

-edit- and no, it isn't the least bit obvious which thread. There are hundreds of current threads.

It's certainly not obvious to me. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of threads active on this site, and I have no idea to what you're referring.

Edit: OK, found the thread in question. Your contribution to that thread:

Sorry, didn't read your post. It was probably shit anyway.

suggests to me that you're really not in a position to question others' Internet etiquette.

*Cough* Context matters, no? The context there being someone announcing that he was going to post without bothering to read the rest of the thread.

Not sure quite how that's relevant to the question of whether it's acceptable to edit posts much later on anyway. Can you clarify?

Oh, that thread. Nothing new there. Happens all the time with a certain type of person. The posts he made after the change (about how you shouldn't take stuff on the internet seriously, and people just posturing) tell you pretty much all you need to know about that sort.

This is why we have block lists (and the ability to compose private geeklists to remind us why we blocked people should we feel tempted to unhide their crap).

There is no context in which I'd consider your post appropriate on this site.

Irrelevant fertilizer advertisements would be an appropriate context.
