Another session of Power Grid. This game is really at it's top. Everyone requests it. Players this time
There was a request for a new map, and it had to be France, because of the holiday period or something. We got rid of the Alps.
The bidding started out OK. I got the 4 (for 5) (I mostly try to get the 4, stuff it with coal and pick a nice spot to start the game). There was no real big competition for the other plants, so everyone was rather happy after the first buying round. How quickly did things turn!
I had enough money left and I deceided to go for Paris. All 3 area's of them. Since we play this game fairly competitive, everyone else sealed Paris off: Pauline to the north, Lennard to the east, Karla to the west and Ageeth was alone in the south (threathening to move up). At that time, I was everything but happy (and I must admit to my shame I was not really nice, I was whining and said I could go upstairs and leave them to it and blablabla - baby!). Since I was the only one with 3 cities, I had to start the bidding next round, and came in last for new resources. I bought nothing. Saving me enough money to buy another city - which I did. Everyone else bought plants, but no houses, which meant I was still in the lead. I thought better of it, and bought a city south of Paris. Still in the front.
Then I did something that I regretted later: I bought the 32 (6 cities for 3 oil). I had exactly 3 elektron left, which let me buy 1 oil and no coal, so I could power NOTHING. I got me a lousy 10 electron. The others could power and build and hapily did so. Next turn I was still in the lead, but I could buy 2 more oil (and that was all that round), after which I finally generated some income, and since I was built-in, there was nothing to buy anyway. When Stufe 2 started, I was behind everyone. But not too much. I could by the 21 (2 oil/coal for 4 cities) real cheap (for 21) and I was in the game again. Ageeth also wanted to block me, and completely ignored her backland (Perpignan and so on), in favor of 2nd connections in other cities.
The game ended before stufe 3 was turned, and Pauline won. She was in the lead with 12 cities (which she could power), Lennard had 10 cities - he could power 12. Pauline was last that turn. Lennard figured that IF he built until 12 cities, Pauline would NOT end the game (and none of the others had enough houses/money to do that), and if he did not, he lost anyway. Either way, he was screwed. He did not take his chance, and Pauline did built her 15th city. She won with 12 cities powered.
Lennard 10 (most money)
Karla 10 (least money)
Has anyone else ever played France this way? Sealing of the Paris player? The excuse was that they all wanted to be the second to enter Paris. Duh!
(I promise, no more whining, but it really is not fair!)
Yes, I play the Bass.
Sweet Holy Moses, Fruit F*cker Prime!
From what I have seen this is the cance you take on with paris. You get in for cheap, but everyone else blocks you so you pay in the end.
