Simple question: Can a player look through the spent cheques in the registry?

There doesn't seem to be a rule against it, except a successful thief can only take the top card. Personally I would think going through the cheques (as a tactic to determine what may be left to play?) would slow the pace of play to the detriment of the game and players.

The cheques paid in are public information, so because you could effectively record (or memorise) them as and when they are played, looking through the played cheques doesn't seem to be a cheat as such. In fact - you could prepare a sheet in advance showing what cheques each colour has in the game, then cross them off when played.

This would be a clever way of draining the fun from such an excellent game!
