With the huge ships coming out, the new wave coming out, and wave 5 n Rebel Aces announced. What's next? They usually have a new ships come out at Gen Con,and that's why I was surprised to hear about wave 5 before then. Any rumors or guesses, as to what they might be? Imperial huge ships? Bounty Hunters? Black Sun? *gulp* prequel ships?

Imperial huge ships would be my guess. Maybe an alternate TIE Advance pack-in, like the X-Wing with the transport.

Still lots of 'obvious' candidates.

- Extra 'Aces' pack, possibly 'Battle of Yavin' that gives us fixes for the Y-Wing and TIE Advanced to drag them (kicking and screaming) into the current meta

- Imperial 'Huge' ships. I'd be a BIT surprised if it wasn't a Gozanti TIE Carrier from the new 'Rebels' TV series. (Although given 'official' scale for it, it may well be just another 'large' ship)

- Other video game tie-ins (no pun intended). Seriously, FFG...GIVE THE EMPIRE ITS ASSAULT GUNBOAT! (Not biased at all...just because it's my favorite Imperial craft after the basic TIE Fighter...)

y-wings are always getting help... Every turret, torpedo and astromech droid that shows up aid's the y-wing. Flechette Torps and R2-d6 already breathe quite a bit of life into these ships.

Tie advanced - yeah, that could use some love.

I hope they don't mess too much with the TIE Advanced or Y wing. They really only need to make the TIE Advanced a few points cheaper, leave it's basic stats as it is, it has a place in the TIE family... it just is an evolutionary "dead end" as the newer Interceptor proves. Y wings do not need a "cheesy" crew member slot although a recon specialist with blaster turret would be an obvious choice. I just think having something "cheesy" like Saboteur really isn't the answer, leave that to the "cheesy" B Wing.

Just reissue Horton and Dutch with an EPT and that will be fine.

PS: "Cheesy" isn't an insult... I like cheese!

I think the Turret slot can be abstractly representing a crew seat though - and as soon as we add a crew slot to the Y-wing, it really encroaches on what the HWK is - making those two ships even closer in purpose is probably bad for the game.

I think the Presentation Hall will be renamed the Death Star.

Nope that droid doesn't cut the mustard.

It does exactly what you ask, provide a EPT for Y Wings. Or do you think access to the EPT slot is not worth a point, and they should have them for free, like the A Wing?

Agree that R2-D6 fix the problem just a bit, for it has a unique sigh, so only one R2-D6 is available.

I'm still sorta baffled by the new canon/non-canon "rules."

IIRC, Disney retconed the entire EU to effectively say nothing but the movies (and Clone Wars cartoon?) were official canon.

On the other hand, the producers of the new Rebels cartoon series (which is DEFINITELY considered canon) have recently said they're going to be incorporating stuff from the ancient West End Games Star Wars RPG (which... IIRC, is the basis for a HUGE chunk of EU vehicle and setting stuff)!

On top of THAT, you have FFG, who is clearly adhering to... uh... "old EU canon" rather than the new "Disney canon."

It's like you have two completely different EU universes, sort of mixing with each other, but still distinct entities. It seems A LOT to me like the Star Fleet Battles universe vs. classic Star Trek vs. JJ. Abrams Star Trek. I'd have assumed the Disney rules were designed to clean up these sorts of confusions, but they seem to be making them far worse.

I'm also wondering a bit about that new massive Imperial ship, which has a Mara Jade card... seems kind of weird to me that they're sticking her in there. Mara could probably sell a ship just by herself... why pop her into the new bad-ass Imperial ship (which could also sell itself)?

Essentially, we are playing in the Legends extension of the universe and the mouse can and will cherry-pick things they want from it.

"The press release also stipulates that just because Expanded Universe content is not considered canonical does not mean that it’s going to be whitewashed.

Instead, it will be rebranded as “Star Wars Legends” and continue to be published and made available to fans.

What’s more, elements from Expanded Universe media may still appear in future projects — much like how fan-favorite character Boba Fett first appeared in the “Star Wars Holiday Special” before being incorporated into Lucas’ film trilogy."

Ok... so essentially, the EU stuff is no longer official as a continuity, however elements of it may be select at random and incorporated into a different "official" continuity?

So... for example, Ewoks, the Battle for Endor is no longer considered canon, however Wilferd Brimley could still theoretically pop up on a space station somewhere? But when he does, he may or may not (depending on the needs of the writer) have ever been on Endor?

I do quite well with my Y-Wings in the current meta tyvm. Going to regionals this week with my Scruffy Looking Nerfherders and we'll see how well I place.

Whilst Disney certainly removed the EU from current Canon, they have specifically said that they are not ruling out using any of it in the future.

They just want a clean slate - I fully expect characters, technology and maybe even retold versions of EU events to reappear in the Canon as time goes on.

There's nothing wrong with FFG continuing to include any of it in the game - given that the game appeared before Disney made the announcement or purchase, and that EU content was there right from the Core release, it's too late to worry about it now anyway. They might as well keep using it.

As for Mara, given the games place in the 'Legends' (EU) time line, she would have been working as an agent of the Empire, so it does make sense that she's in an Imperial set. Given that the ship she's famous for flying is a modified Z-95, making her a pilot would set a precedent that I don't think FFG want to touch (at least yet).

If he does appear on a space station - would he be eating Quaker Oats? Or is that EU?

More likely a cooked breakfast - nurf bacon, nurf sausage, scrambled Quor'sav eggs....you get the idea.

Right - I totally don't see any issue with FFG doing that, especially considering that if they went purely with "nu-canon," they'd be hosed in releasing enough ships.

I suppose they could also go the route Kenner went back in the 80's and start designing some of their own Star Wars inspired vehicles in addition or instead of the Legends EU.

(As an aside, if you haven't looked up the aborted storyline and design concepts Kenner came up with during the post-ROTJ material drought, some of it is VERY interesting, in IMO better than some of the EU stuff we got later on).

They'd be on hiatus for a year or two lol

They could I guess...I don't believe the license covers the creation of completely original material though. As a personal preference I think it would be better if they didn't do this. Despite the game being based heavily in the EU it would still feel less authentic if they just started making things up.

I know...not only are we talking about a made up universe but we're talking about a game based on it's extended setting which is no longer canon, and my preference is for FFG to 'not make things up'.

I get it, it's stupid.

I just grew up with the films and the EU, and that's the stuff that feels 'authentic' to me. I'd prefer them to stick with it for material.

I mused in a game design thread about the feasibility of running a kickstarter which features compatible "star wars like" ship minis and associated cards/rules... I pretty much got blown out of the water there, but it still seems to me there's quite a lag and anticipation for the handful of ships FFG releases with each wave.

Even if a third party was out of the picture and FFG was making these minis themselves, I'm still left wondering if they had a separate, compatible, non-licensed game, if there'd be interest for it (because eventually, they'll run out of EU ships anyway or the license will get yanked).

That anticipation drives sales, it's not really a bad thing. I wouldn't mind a little more of a gap between waves if I'm honest.

It's not a bad idea I suppose, but the license brings most of the interest from fans, then the game system keeps them. If the game wasn't Star Wars, I don't think I would have paid any attention at all. I looked firstly because it was Star Wars, and I kept looking and bought in because it's X-Wing (the X-Wing series of video games are still some of my favorites - I'm replaying them atm - and the novel series was great fun). If I didn't already have that attachment to the material, I don't think I would have given it a second look.

EDIT: I think the thread left the rails behind a while ago! lol

On topic: I hope we see some Huge Imperial ships out of Gencon. I'm primarily a rebel player, but even I want some more Imperial toys

We won't have truly 'epic' games until we have Imperial and Rebel capital ships duking it out whilst fighters dart all over the place

Same here. The only reason I even looked at the game to begin with is that I decided I wanted an easy version of Battletech so I started making one, and in doing so I started spending time on BGG outside the Arkham games and saw this. Being a big Star Wars fan, and finding a game that lets you equip and fly ships from the movies- perfect.
