We had 3 Man O War games at my house last Friday. I hope to write reports for all three, but here is the first for now.
GAME 1 - Chuck (Bretonnians) Vs Nathan (Nurgle Plaguefleet)
This was an interesting game. Chuck had the very fast yet completely
wind-dependant Bretonnians, while Nathan had the slow and plodding
Nurgle fleet filled with disease and pestilence. Running his Big
Corsair squadron in classic line astern formation, Chuck came in on
Nathan's left flank to see what kind of damage he could do. With the
exception of the Chaos Deathgalleys, all of Nathan's weaponry were
catapults which have a range of 3"-9" anything too close can't be
targeted. Chuck's corsairs would decimate anything they all fired upon simultaneously, but that was not always possible considering the position of the fleets and the fact that the wind had changed to nearly head on and had almost stopped Chuck's fleet dead in their tracks
The interesting thing about the Nurgle catapults is that if the hit
a location (whether it gets damaged or not) there is a chance for a
Nurgle's Rot counter, which can kill crew and cause direct Below
Waterline damage. The best Nurgle strategy is to fire early and often and get some Nurgle's Rot counters to do their dirty work for you.
Right away the catapults were flying and the Corsairs being dealing
some punishment of their own. Both players attacked every turn with everything that they could muster to fire with and there was a lot of damage markers dealt out. One of Chuck's big MOW class Galleons
was literally COVERED in damage markers at the end of the game but
it was still fairly watertight as Nathan couldn't deal the death
After all was said and done, only TWO ships had been sent to Davy
Jone's locker - both Nathans. Amazingly many ships had suffered damage, but just those two had had enough to sink them. The final Battle Honor (BH) total was 4-0 Chuck. The Bretonnian's were able to claim a minor victory.
