Am practically done with the game room in my house. Here's how the room looked before we moved in--a fairly large entertainment and pool room:
The plan was to tear out the built in TV in the entertainment area, deepen the wall for a wet bar, install game shelves all along the wall up to the incline, and install book shelves on the curved wall.
The plan for the shelving looked like this:
The results look like this (nearly finished):
Wet Bar
War Room
Panoramic Wargame Shelves
Not shown are the wargame magazine collections (in the war room closet) and many old AH and SPI games, kept in a separate conditioned storeroom. I have sold most of my SPI white box and plastic flat packs and most of the old SPI monsters. Played them to death and have more than enough other titles to explore!
A new game table light fixture will go in with the tricked out game table, designed and built by the same guys who did the shelving, so everything will match. Got the same style drawers as seen on the Geek Chic Sultan table. A few new barstools have gone in to replace what you see and I will get some leather recliners opposite the bar, next to the wine rack and step-tonsu chest (not seen).
This game room was "broken in" with a game of ASLSK#1, Scenario 5: "Clearing Colleville" scenario, with:
of Richmond on Saturday, 18 May, 2014.
ADDENDUM: I've gotten quite a number of requests for the wargame table plans and how the table drawers work. So here they are:
This cabinet maker did not only the custom-built table, but also the shelving. Everything matches perfectly.
The table surface is 8 feet by 5 feet with drawers for 10 players.
Shows the side dimensions for the long and short sides, to include drawers.
Computer-generated graphic of the finished wargame table.
Computer-generated graphic of the drawer and rulebook/charts easel function.
This is how the drawer looks when it is first pulled out from underneath the table. Good writing surface, or just another place to put pieces/charts if that's all you need.
Here's how the easel looks at a player's station when it's flipped up out of the drawer. You can't close up the drawer until you lower the easel.
Dice and drink cup holders. You have to flip these out to use the hidden compartment tray underneath the writing surface.
The hidden unit compartment lid is not hinged. It just pulls up with the finger ring. It has to stay down on the bottom of the compartment to flip the dice and drink cup holders back into the compartment and lower the easel to close the drawer.
The hidden unit compartment lid is placed on top of the hidden unit compartment. There's roughly an inch underneath to put displays with units/markers on them, whatever you want to keep hidden from your opponent(s)!

- Nice set up! People like you are pillars of the hobby because you create spaces for wargamers to gather and do what they do. We can't just link up in a game store or coffee shop to casually play a monster wargame...

Indeed, my goal is to host regular sessions of the Richmond Area Game Enthusiasts (RAGE) here. One of the members does a Tuesday night weekly session at his place not far from here; I'm thinking of doing the same kind of thing on Thursday evenings, plus the occasional weekly gamefest.
Of course, the real issue is whether to do that or have a monster game set up in the house for weeks--if not months--of massive continued monster-game play. This is a difficult decision!

So, hey guys, I was building my game room out and here's where I'm at:
and it's totally going to be baller and I was about to - hey, what's that over there?
So, uh... what was I saying? Oh right, so I guess my game room set up is now basically:
Men are weeping openly in envy of your set up, Mr. Walters. Well done and enjoy. Definitely put that massive table to work with a monster, any monster will do.

Game collections in basements are a 100% collection loss when heavy rain wreaks havoc ...
Anyway, it's super to have a game room of your own. Great work.

Boah!!! Now THAT'S impressive!!!!
I'm trying to get my head around just clearing out my large garage in the new home I just moved into. If I can do another purge and get the rest of the house completely situated the way we like it, then I can consider how to turn the garage into a wargaming den.... suffice it to say, my bar will be quite a bit below this engineering marvel!
