I love this game, but I work at a nursing home with an older population. I'm wondering what is a more palatable name for this game? Wizard sounds nerdy and Demonic. Rage doesn't fit the style game. I'm wondering if these are good alternates or there's another name?

This is a question easily answered on the main game page, where, listed as "Alternate Names," are all of the following:

Quote:
Allir edrú
Blackout
Boerenbridge
Bust
Chinees dekken
Chinees poepen
Crazy Bridge
Elevator
German Bridge
Lupaus
Nomination Whist
Oh Heck
Oh Hell
Oh Pshaw
Oh Shit!
Planowanie
Plump
Pocha
Podrida
La Potxa
Pronostieken
Riki Tiki
Rikiki
Romanian Whist
Seven Down
Spite
Swing 13
Tía
To Hell and Back
Up and Down the River

Several of those seem innocuous enough.

Thanks everyone!

I think Crazy Bridge sounds the most traditional, while still being fun.

How does Bridge compare to Oh Hell? Are they similar card games?

I would say the biggest difference is that in Bridge you have a teammate, while Oh Hell is everyone for themselves. The bidding is also different because in Oh Hell you are bidding what you think you can take, not trying to outbid your opponent.

It was my grandmother who taught me the game and she never called it anything else.

Up and Down seems to be the traditional name. We grew up playing it with slightly different scoring rules and called it LIE. Because that's what someone always did.

The Flemish name "Chinees poepen" actually means "Chinese f*cking", so "Oh hell" doesn't seem that bad
