I have a strong opinion: Combat Commander is a great tactical WWII infantry system. I rate it a 10.
Here are my comments from the ratings page:
Adequately detailed WWII tactical combat with a healthy dose of chaotic fun! Good narrative feel, good game.
Update (10/19/2009): This is the WWII tactical game for me. You don't have total control, but you have enough control. The rules are easier than the length of the rulebook suggests because the rulebook describes every card in detail, but the text on the cards is adequate for actual play. I like managing the chaos that the game throws at you. Games are tense and frustrating in a good way. There's a good variety of units and weapons. The included scenarios are varied and fun. I'm looking forward to giving the (reputedly) excellent random scenario generator a try. The rule book is amazingly clear and well-organized. There is excellent support for the game both here and on CSW. You can have a lifetime of fun with just the CC:E set, but there are also plenty of expansions coming out at regular intervals. This will likely become a 10 for me after not too much longer.
Update 8/9/11: I've gotten a few RSG games in. It's great! Making your way through the RSG is a mini-game before the main event that has a real influence on the "actual" game play.
