I only recently purchased Arkham Horror, after watching The Lonesome Gamer's video sessions. This epic fight took place on my second solo playthrough, vs the horrible Nyarlthotep.
Poor old Gloria Goldberg, down to one last shred of sanity, but feeling fairly fit and hearty, was booted out by suspicions townsfolk into the streets of Uptown - and right into the path of a disgusting Rat-thing, which was lurking there.
To make matters worse, this movement caught the beady black eyes of not one, not two, but three monsters currently circling in the dank air above Arkham. A Mi-Go (extra tough, thanks to alien technology), a Byakhee and a Haunter of the Dark, satisfied there were no other delicious morsels at large on the streets (everybody else was tucked up inside a cosy location), furled their respective wings and dove on the elderly author.
So in her movement phase, Gloria was squared off against four monsters.
There was no way of sneaking past all of them - not with the Haunter's -3 anti-sneak capability - so Gloria resolved to go down fighting. She had no fight dice, but luckily was blessed, and had some skill in the fighting arts (+1), and had picked up a sabre. And a Molotov cocktail.
She first targeted the Mi-Go, finding it loathsome but not so horrifying. She lit her Molotov with a cigar and hoiked it at the buzzing creature. Successs! She repelled it back to where it came from, and as it left a bottle of holy water clattered to the ground.
She turned now to the Byahkee, again survived the horror check and took it on with just her sword. Whack! She cleaved off a vital bit, and it went down spraying black blood.
Now it was the turn of the Haunter. She popped the top off the holy water and let fly - kablam! The Haunter went down in a hissing mess.
Finally she sacrificed an item and turned on the vile Rat-thing, with its quivery little whiskers (much like her own). "Come at me!" she cried, and the monster charged - right onto the blade of her sabre.
Gloria stood amongst the spilt goo of the four dead monsters, her blade twitching too and fro.
"Now there's one for the books," she muttered.
What a fight! I was resigned to sending her to the hospital, and couldn't believe she survived. Had to share.

Sounds like quite a battle! I love playing with Gloria. Welcome to the world of Arkham, you are in for hours (and hours and hours and hours) of fun.
