Here is a simple turn order variant to add a little more variety to gameplay and add an additional decision pathway.

Each characters has a coin (any token would do). At the start of the game each character's coin is on 'heads'. Players mutually decide who will take the first turn. When that character has taken their turn they flip their coin to 'tails' Continue this process, deciding the order in which each remaining characters takes their turn, flipping their coins to their 'tails' side as they go. When each character has taken a turn and their coin has been flipped, start the process again flipping back to the 'heads' side.

As an option, if there are three or more characters in play, no character may take two sequential turns.

What do you think? Any obvious issues I am missing?

All you are doing here is making the game easier for the players, and therefore less challenging. I can't really see any benefit from this variant, sorry.

Hi John, you well be right We have just started playing the game and are using several of the variants posted here, including the smaller blessing deck and additional locations tied into a linear variant - so far it has far from easy but it is early days - maybe still a little easier than LotR lcg but we are finding it challenging enough so far...

I see no obvious issues, aside from making the game easier.

If you wanted to help keep the difficulty in balance, you could change it to: "After a player finishes their turn, the next player in clockwise order must flip their coin unless another player with an unflipped coin discards a card from their hand. If so, that player may flip their coin and take the next turn instead."

The wording is a bit awkward, but basically, if you want to act out of regular turn order, you have to discard a card.
