You've got about 10 days to blast around the globe, grabbing what you can. Some things to imagine:

-Your rocket might need some fixing up before you can take off. What does a rocket need to blast off?
-You might be in space for a significant amount of time before reaching a potential new home. What do you need in the meantime?
-Your new colony could potentially be on a non Earth-like planet, and needs to be setup sustainably. What does that require?

Of course this is for a game, so I'm not looking for complete truth but rather fun, easily understandable concepts. Here's what I'm thinking so far:

-Robotics (acquired from Cities) for computing, maintenance, construction.
-Metals (acquired from Refineries) for use in structure creation.
-Plants (acquired from Plant Farms) for consumption & production.
-Fish (acquired from Fisheries) for consumption & breeding.
-Livestock (acquired from Animals Farms) for consumption & breeding.

The game so far has been played using Catan resource cards, but eventually needs to move on to its own concepts. Thus the above. I welcome thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks, I thought about that as well and considered adding it to the 'Fish' category. But in the end I considered Air and Water as something they'd already have prepared (and Electricity as something to produce through the use of robots to create solar panels). Still though, maybe it should be added.

Are there other groups competing to complete their rockets? Perhaps weapons are required.

Personnel are also something you'll need. Maybe you need scientists, farmers, engineers etc.

In reality you would probably need a very specific set of things however in science fiction a lot of the time these are hand waved away using nanotechnology as a magic wand. You could have requirements like 'metals' from cities or mines, 'organics' from farmlands and forests and then 'nano' from industrial centres or labs. Add a genetic bank so any plants and animals that are needed can be grown and you are fairly well sorted.

Medical Supplies
Fuel(s)
Food sources (temp)
Food sources (long term)
Building materials

I'd say you'd probably want broad terms for resources, but perhaps spice things up by having different art but for the same resource (an image of iron on one metal resource, an image of copper on another), or perhaps allow 1 thing to be considered for multiple resources.

For example, if you used cards, you collect a fish card. Do you add it to the food resource, or animal resource?

Liquid Oxygen and alot of Nuts and Bolts. Someone to light the fuse.

Some sort of entertainment and relaxcation tools so the crew dont go psycho on each other during the long downtime in space.
And alot of water to drink.

To terraform a planet? Some sort of device that can terraform a planet, since NASA havent invented one yet I've no idea how its gonna work

Sorry if you wanted light and easy answers, as a space nerd I only see one kind of answers unless you wanna make a kids game (in which case you dont need any science stuff at all).

Remember, the best thing to bring to bring if you marrooned on a deserted island is either water or a mirror (to signal ships/planes) which is not what most people would take with them.

Cryogenics? just how long is it going to take to get there?

Boardgames? everyone needs some downtime - perhaps a game about rockets

Are we just glossing over the "how we get there" part and focusing on what we'll need when we get there?

For what we need when we get there -
Tools
Weapons (in case of dangerous native animals),
Building materials (for initial structure, some kind of enclosed biome)
Medical supplies (lots as I doubt you'd be able to make more quickly)
Seeds to grow food + compost
Animals (fish - aquapoincs, livestock that can be fed on the parts of food plants which people don't eat and provide meat & manure (& maybe milk), something that would eat bugs (chickens?), earthworms, bees)
Some way of generating energy

I've not thought about how many of these would count as resources (and whether lots could map onto your existing resources)

I would break it out into several categories:

You have the startup for the rocket itself, which can include the following:

Engines
Fuel
Shields* (for a scifi setting)
Controls
Cargo Space

Then, you have the midpoint, the journey there:

Food
Water (can be a byproduct of the Fuel and Engines)
Entertainment
Oxygen Recycling

Finally, you have what you'll need when you're there:

Housing (either prefab units or a way to build an air-tight structure to hold in the oxygene from what you brought)
Terraforming Tools (most likely a variety of Lichens and Mosses to convert the local atmosphere to Oxygen/Nitrogen)
Animal/Plant seeds to generate a new flora/fauna population for a renewable food source
A variety of tools which can be used once there

I could see this being a fun three-phase game where you have to pick and choose what you're going in with.

Large supply of all the raw materials
magi-tech 3D print anything printer
egg repository (every plant, animal, microbe, etc)
magi-tech uterine replicator (all egg capable)
???

In other words, being too specific on materials, animals, plants, etc, when you are only allowing 5 categories, seems bound for failure. You want flexability.

Edit:
You might look in the back of the Rocheworld series by Robert L Forward for specs on the spaceship (hard sci-fi). I recall living quarters, lander/gliders, solar sail, readjustable robot (christmas tree), etc. The book only deals with a dozen people or so, but it is a 1 way trip, so they take all that they need. Good stories by the way with cool aliens too.
