Hi Geeks,

I've been working on a game designed for young kids ages 3-7. The layout is inspired by trivial pursuit in the way that it is a pentagon shape however it is designed as a mini village that kids move around to go shopping.

The object is to collect food items in the shopping basket and start having fun with food and trying new things.

There are little challenges aimed at bringing kids closer to food that they may not recognise and also becoming familiar as to where food comes from ect. Each correctly completed challenge earns a food token and there are 6 in total to collect within the basket that moves around the board.

I am struggling with inspiration for names. I initially had nutritional pursuit but i don't want it to resemble trivial pursuit at all.

Please GB Geeks can you help?

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars, where you will be forced to drift aimlessly farther into the vast, empty abyss of space until a lack of food, water and oxygen causes you to succumb to Death's cold embrace.

Wow, that's a lot of very unhelpful responses. Unless I'm wrong and she really wants to pick a crude rip off of a game I expect she doesn't know even exists. Doubt it somehow though.

Oy, another game that is trying to preach about healthy foods to kids! Seems like there's a whole emerging sub-genre of games for kids on this topic, and if we're being really, really honest here, I've never known kids who were excited to play these games (without adult encouragement).

If you want my advice, don't focus on learning "where food comes from". Just make a game that is silly and fun. No one plays board games to learn a moral lesson or ponder values - adults don't, and kids sure as heck don't.gulp Games are supposed to be fun!

With that said, I think if you want to make a grocery shopping game (that hopefully instills no lessons), I think you should call it:

Food Faire

Thankyou Katie, your absolutely right.

This isn't an encyclopaedia of food facts rolled into a game, this is silly challenges like making 3D characters out of food, planting seeds in the garden, gathering food of the same colour. The idea of all the challenge cards is to have fun with food.

In my experience of working with fussy kids, quite often they aren't aware of where food comes from, how it is prepared or that it involves so many wonderful colours. This game marries up fun with just a hint of food awareness.

Thankyou all for your suggestions.

Some of them were way beyond me. I did start seeing a common resemblence to other familiar games.

I have narrowed it down to Market Basket and What the Food!

Thanks so much for such awesome contributions.

What the food is a recent kickstarter game. There is even bonus cards in the bgg store for it. I wouldn't use it.
