So I've gotten used to the mini quality, filling things in with a bit of putty and repainting them. I love my X-wing models, but this isn't about that. I was even getting encouraged with recent releases like the Equinox and Bioship, which looked a lot better. This Enterprise is just appalling though. One of the nacelles isn't even fully in its slot, there's a bunch of extra molding plastic just painted over, and the paint job looks like it was trying to be Heath Ledger's Joker. I sent to their support people, since they didn't have the new ships up yet.

The ones I've seen have had similar problems

It astounds me how little care they give to the most significant ship in the license.

I know! They prove that they can make some nice ships and then all the Enterprises are terrible! The D is my favorite ship and it takes a lot of knife work to even get it to a passable shape.

Mine look that way, too. Yeah, kinda crappy. I even managed to snap off my left nacelle trying to straighten it out a bit. Oops. Oh, well.

The X-Wing models, as you mention, are the standard of excellence when it comes to pre-paints. But then, some fans of that game repaint those models, too. (And not necessarily for the better.)

It's something I'm not losing sleep over. *shrug*

Mine looks like that and one of the nacelles came half cracked at that point right out of the package.

Not the end of the world, but this is so bad I won't try to repaint it, just use the micromachine. Still, it's pretty amazing in its awfulness.

Some of the repaints people do are pretty strange. While I've seen a lot that are just so terrible looking that you'd think people should just hang their heads in shame, this is definitely the weirdest and most disturbing thing I've seen: http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/912...

All of the versions I've seen have had an issue with one of the nacelles being quite crooked.

Yup mine is terrible as well, and also lost a nacelle when removing from the packaging.

"Luckily" I had to break off the other one as well since it was crooked, so I was ready to glue in any case...

It's a shame the model is so bad, but I assume it's because it's reused from the clix line. They may even be surplus that are repainted, or it's possible a different company was used to manufacture these (since they already had the tools) and the higher quality models are a new molder.

Dissapointing... but hey I was going to replace it was a Shapeways model anyways!

What is worse is that, even if you STRAIGHTEN the nacelles...they aren't put on right in the first place. Not on a single one of the models I've seen.

The warp nacelles are supposed to be ABOVE the saucer, when viewed from the front:

...all the minis I've seen, even when the nacelles and struts are 'on straight', have had the nacelles UNDER the saucer. It really looks silly!

It is a pity that Attack Wing was not released by FFG. With WizKids we get half-tested expansions and really bad quality models.

But unless people stop buying them instead of just complaining, they have no reason to make them any better...

On the other hand, we'd still be on wave 2, and having massive supply problems getting basic ships at this stage of the game if we compared it to X-Wing. And every OP would be a basic punch-up in an asteroid field for a chance at a Picard with a variant picture of Patrick Stewart on it.

So you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and then you have the facts of life. The facts of life.

So what? Better on wave 2 but with quality models and balanced expansions.

Why the rush to get half-baked expansions and models which look like cheap children toys? Don't we all have other games to play until the next waves roll in?

Some people still prefer quality over quantity, you know...

Maybe it's in part because I started X-wing right as wave 2 was coming out, but I like getting better tested stuff less frequently. The supply chain stuff is getting better for FFG, and honestly neither game has given me the chance to fully use all the ships I've gotten. Unless I found a group of people who were playing matches every week rather than just the OPs, it would be hard. Lots of ships I've not even used, like the Bioship, Interceptor, Vo, D-7, Equinox, Nebula, Krayton, and only recently got a chance to use the Excelsior. In the more active X-wing communities I've been a part of there are still tons of things I never get around to trying.

At any rate, the comparison wasn't with X-wing, but with other Attack Wing releases. It seemed for a while, esp. in Wave 3 I think, that they were making big gains in quality. The Jem'hadar Battlecruiser isn't very detailed and the Soong Borg ship is just a black hunk of plastic, but those are things I can easily work with, a fun little fixer-upper. This thing though is just a disgrace.

Sorry, model quality just isn't the most important factor. They're not even models, they're game pieces. They look fine from a distance (though I'd prefer them to look a bit more like the battleship than the Enterprise).

But at the end of the day I'd rather have the 6 waves we have instead of 2 with marginally better sculpts. And either way, they are well-balanced - that doesn't enter into this discussion.

My nacelles are on straight but the saucer section has a downward slant that makes it look like the ship is taking a nosedive when viewed from the side. Agree with the comments on the paint job. It's odd the the Federation ships, particularly the Enterprise models, are by far the crappiest looking in the line. I'd prefer WK just do what they've done with the Klingon and Romulan ships and just give them a coat of light grey paint and be done with it. The added "detail" work just makes the models look worse.

Yes, the casting is a lot cruder than most, the painting is worse and it's generally not very nice. I did repaint it and it's moderately presentable but barely. I'm using the SFB Constitution and that seems to work as a substitute for the Tinyprise. The micromachine refit doesn't look bad but the soft plastic results in a drooping nacelle that isn't attractive either. I have one I made that isn't bad I might use that one.

It's surprising really because the Reliant, though painted badly is a good casting. Not sure why they can't get the Enterprise (either version) right.

Yeah, I have a couple Mirandas and a decent ink wash really makes them pop. (see above)

It did once. Now they look like this:

Would have been better if WK just left the three parts unassembled and unprimed in the blister. You're going to be doing model work on this anyway to make it look pretty.

Then again the nacelles pretty much pop off on their own eventually, so it's more or less the same thing.

So somehow a horde of terrible miniatures with ill-thought out rules rushed into the community is supposed to be better than a refined product with plenty of testing and care put into the design?

There's a reason X-Wing is higher on the hotness list than Attack Wing y'know.
