Star Wars Total Mod for Eclipse sounds like a dream come true. This dream has already been realized for TI3 with Steven Shaw's(v0lrath)TI3 Star Wars full conversion mod found here:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/508968/star-wars-imperiu...

My wife loves Star Wars and now I am able to get her to play Eclipse with me because of this visual re-theme.

I have taken a couple of liberties in this Star Wars Re-Theme that some might not like. All races from all Star Wars Era's were considered for each Race rather than choosing a time period and making all the races fit into that era. (Although if you don't like this then you can easily print out races from only certain time periods or eras. I can make other races to help accomplish this goal if you would like.)

The Ancients are the Rakata. I know about them from Knights of the Old Republic (the first one). The were an ancient race that ruled the galaxy in the far past. Their empire was known as the Infinite Empire.
.

GCDS has become The Star Forge. "The Star Forge was a giant automated shipyard, designed to create the most powerful army of all time, constructed by the Rakatan Infinite Empire in 30,000 BBY, five thousand years before the rise of the Galactic Republic. The Star Forge drew energy and matter from a nearby star which, when combined with the power of the Force, was capable of creating an endless supply of ships, droids, and other war material" copied from: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Forge. In was never destroyed and is now a ancient artifact with it's defenses still working.
Factions are fight over it because it is an ancient weapon and resource manufacturing plant that can strategically help them in their quest for domination for the galaxy.

Does anyone have any better ideas? Coruscant is an option, but I am not sure what the GCDS would be.

Anyway on to the factions:
Erdidani Empire has become The Galactic Empire OR The Galactic Republic (your choice):

The Galactic Empire or Galactic Republic makes sense to have the best set up at the start of the game but gets weaker and weaker if time goes on and they are not played in a smart way. The Galactic Empire and The Republic (during the clone wars) are also militarily strong.

Hydran Progress has become The Mon Calamari OR The Mandalorians Your Choice:

The Mon Calamari are technology specialists, and they are fish looking. So it makes sense for them to be the Hydran Progress, especially if you have the ship pack. The Mon Calamari never ruled the galaxies but they might have been able to if they had the ambition for it. (You could also substitute The Mandalorians here because they always keep the best technology)

The Mandalorians always try to keep their war technology top of the line.

The Descendants of Draco have become The Sith Order.

The Rakata people are very easily able to be lured and influenced to the Dark Side of the Force. The extra explore action is seen as a dark premonition/ vision.

Mechanema has become The Wookies Or The Trade Federation OR The Separatists (your choice):

The Wookies are expert builders and up-graders.

The Trade Federation and Separatist Army is of course made up of droids and they can be manufactured at an alarming (or delightful) rate.

The Orion Hegemony has become The Mandalorians OR The Galactic Empire:

The Mandalorians are a warrior race and they love to engage in warfare.

The Rho Indi Syndicate have become the Hutts:

The Hutt's are pirates and gangsters. They trive off of crime networks. The like to hire bounty hunters to do their bidding. They don't control big ships either.

or Bounty Hunter's Guild

Bounty Hunters' Alliance make sense as Bounty Hunters always use smaller ships and never large ones. The earn vp's from capturing their victims and ransoming them off. Their influence is slow to spread over planets and thus they have only two colony ships.

The Magellan have become the Yuuzhan Vong:

The Yuuzhan Vong are a race that invaded the galaxy during the New Republic Era. They are constantly looking for new organic technology and ways to improve their race and thus the discovery bonus'.

The Exiles have become The Rebel Alliance or the Chiss Ascendancy:

The Rebel Alliance had to use stealth to accomplish its purposes. The orbitals are Rebel Bases located on the planets.

The Chiss Ascendancy was highly defensive race. They also reside outside of the core of the galaxy for most of their existence.

The Enlightened of Lyra have become The Jedi Council:

Shrines are Jedi Temples and/or Jedi Training Academies. They are able to use the force to give themselves a boost in combat.

Planta has become The Black Sun Syndicate OR Killik

This is a Crime Syndicate and is a network that spreads it's influence over the galaxy. It spreads very quickly but is easily squashed when a strong government takes over the planet.

The Killik are a race that work out of Hive Mind. They have the power to sweep others into their hive mind and control them and gain access to all their knowledge, so it makes sense that they can expand rapidly. It also makes sense that once their hive mind is broken on a planet all under it's influence are released.

The Elders of the Solstice have become Jawa Clans:

The Jawa's are a mostly harmless race and it is very frowned upon to attack such a helpless race. Although, all races agree that they are quite annoying how they come to your planet and sell "junk" to your populations.

I probably should have chosen a Bith for this position but I decided that Twi'leks are more interesting. I guess you could think of it as the Entertainment Guild instead of the Musician's Guild. But someones got to do the dancing when the singing is going on. Anyway, this fits the Elders because the ship goes around preforming concerts for your citizens.

Terran races have become either Smugglers and Free Traders' Alliance (with a particular leader). Honestly, I had a hard time knowing what to do for the Terran race. I decided on just having all the left out major Star Wars characters.

So Han Solo never joined the Rebel Alliance rather decided to become a leader and unify the other Smugglers into an alliance.

Lando Calrissian has always had great ambition. He has now used his cunning to rally other smugglers to his name and start building something bigger.

Elephant Mon as seen in Jabba's Palace. I don't know his story but I really like the picture.

Talon Karrde is the only person who fits this role. He was the only Smuggler (that I know of) to form a Smuggler's Alliance. I really enjoyed his character in the Trawn book series. He was the new Han Solo.

I just thought this picture was cool, plus it will give our lady friends a female option among the throng of males.

Here is a Bothan Smuggler. Give an Alien Choice among the other human smugglers. Who says humans have to be in charge?

Below is a printable version. I recommend printing them out and having them laminated. That way, you can choose your own faction and you don't have to follow my guidelines. Furthermore, I plan to add playable factions from the Star Wars Universe and will give you options which races fit with which in game factions. Print full page photo and they will be the perfect size. (NOTE: None of these pictures are mine. If I have posted copy righted material then please let me know and I will quickly take it down.)

Please let me know of Star Wars Races or factions you would like to see me add and which Eclipse race you think they fit the best.

Some nice artwork and variant there! Have you done/drawn them yourself or borrowed the pictures? Some of the races don't quite match the Eclipse races (surely they don't need either), but nevertheless, keep on creating more (so that there are more to choose from )

Thanks. None of it is my own art. I just found images on the internet. I am not that talented. It's true that each race isn't a perfect match. I'm just trying to get as close as possible while still being based in the Star Wars Universe. I would love any suggestions about which Star Wars factions or races you think best fit the Eclipse races and your reasons why.

What are the Ancients in the SW universe? And why is everyone fighting over the GCDS?

I think I like the Eridani as just the Republic. And having the Orions be the Empire.

Good job!

Great idea. Then you could also change Hydran Progress to the Mandalorians instead of the Mon Calimari. The Mandalorians always seem to have some of the best techological gadgets so this would work thematically. Who else thinks these changes are better than the currently listed ones?

I am just looking at the components and color of the star wars rebellion boardgame and realized that if you have RotA you can use the grey and bone materials with the empire and rebel SW Rebellion ships!

Empire: Grey Materials plus:
Dreadnought = Super destroyers or death star
Cruiser = Star Destroyer
Interceptor = Tie fighter
Base= At At or whatever (only 2 death stars included)

Rebellion: Bone materials plus
Dreadnought = Mon calamari big ship
Cruiser = Corellian corvette
Interceptor= Xwings and YWings
Starbase = Planetary cannon (only 3 included but you can complement with the shield generator in case)

How cool is that?

Any suggestions on how best to leverage ship pack one for the other races?

I got to try this last weekend, looked great!

I went with pyxis and exiles for imperials and rebels... pyxyis because deathmoons... Had to drop the superdestructor out due to size and used star destroyers as dreads and frigates as cruisers...

Next time I will probably use Orion as imperiom and use the star destroyers as cruisers, they will be bigger than the other races average ships but who cares? they look good!

Great photos. Amazing how much more appropriate miniatures work. One issue is that the base minis and even those from the ship pack, make the interceptors look like small fighter ships and even those bigger ships don't look that big. Eclipse, however, is trying to model gigantic fleet ships. The TI3 models help, too, and those SW models even more so. Also, they're just better models

I set up a re-themed eclipse game as part of a Star wars themed boardgame day (regional xwing, armada and the like)

5 player game (using warp sector to balance the board), all veteran players, all expansions.

Races:

Orion (galactic Empire): Perfect fit.
Rebellion (Exiles): Perfect fit, orbitals were rebel bases.
Eridani (Hutts): Worked well, plenty of money and smaller footprint went well in the theme, used the draco ship pack one ships.

Octanis (Smuggler Alliance): Used the mechanema ships, I thought it would work better as it finally did (the mutation represents the multitude of races forming the alliance).
Hydran (Mon Calamari): Worked ok but didnt feel specially thematic either, used hydran SP1 ships.

I had a 6th race prepared (Rho Indi as Head Hunters syndicate) but we had only 5 players, i think it would have worked fine with the cash earnings by combat representing their head hunting income.

We used the retheme artwork, ship pack one and rebellion ships. Finally The empire used Death Stars as Dreadnaughts and Imperial star destroyers as Cruisers, they were big and menacing and the Orion Hegemony playstile felt really fitting as they started the game sending this initial star destroyer to "pacify" separatist systems.

The theme was basically a power grab by different factions in the outer rim, ancients were isolated systems with their own hostile forces.
The hutts and Mon calamari allied for a win, Empire placed second.

It was very fun to play but interestingly enough the theme was mucho more apparent and present for the people passing by than for the players as we reverted to "Standard eclipse thinking" pretty quickly to be honest...
