I do believe that every expansion stands on its own (the base game is, of course, also necessary).

By standalone, we mean it doesn't require the other expansion, not that it's a standalone game.

Both expansions are independent of one another and both are very good. Almost to the point of must haves to get the most out of the base. Treasure Hunters focuses more on heroes while Crimson Hand focuses more on villains.
