I just posted a file of a Blokus variation, using a Knizia inspired scoring. Basically, all the pieces are distributed among all of the players. Players can play any of their pieces, regardless of color. After all legal plays are made, each player looks at which color they have the most squares of; then players compare that number and the one with the lowest wins.

The file gives more specifics about distributing the pieces, turn order, and starting pieces.

The 3-player variant removes 1/4 of the pieces and plays on a smaller board. (This is much like the 2-player game reduces the number of pieces and the board size.) By all players playing all colors the play is more balanced for 3 than traditional Blokus.
