I am moving next week from Madrid to Austin and I will probably live there in Texas for the next three years, very likely in the north part of the city or in Pflugerville. Wanted to know if there are some gaming groups there. I use to play Netrunner, Magic the Gathering and most of the regular eurogames like Agriocola, Power Grid and many others. Love to explain rules and I am (or at least I consider myself to be) a quite friendly guy.

Any ideas or guidance about where to go and what to do in Austin boardgame wise.

Thanks and enjoy your weekend.

There are a lot of gamers and groups in the N Austin/P Town/Round Rock area.

I have a Tuesday night game you would be more than welcome to join.

Check meetup.com. There are several gaming groups posted there. In particular, you might be interested in http://www.meetup.com/Boards-and-Brews/ and http://www.meetup.com/Central-Texas-Boardgames/.

You can heckle, I'd rather eat it.

Welcome to Austin! As people here have said, Austin and the surrounding cities have a really active tabletop gaming scene and I'm sure you'll find something that works well for you.

I will second the recommendation of going to BoardGameBash if you are able, but if that's too soon around your move, not a big deal.

And about the BBQ...

I will eat the BBQ and heckle the players

Welcome to Austin, as you see Austinites have crazy meta-wars. Usually about Hamburgers, BBQ, and Traffic.

Here I am. We have found a place to live in Jollyville Road. Once we are moved and stuff I will try to join some of the meetings or at least visit the stores. Thanks a lot. Love your city but damn, it is hot here even for a spaniard...

Yes it does get worse...

But having a beer on your porch in short sleeves in December seems to make up for it....

Austin (and Texas in general for the most part) has lovely weather for about 8 months of the year. You just happened to move right at the peak of the time when it's just Too Hot.

Now that you're officially in the NW 183 area, we might worth checking out. Our playlogs have included a number of your higher rated games and we occasionally make a day of the longer ones.

Several good game stores. Wonko's in NW Austin and Dragon's Lair will be closest, but Great Hall Games has the best supply of wargames along with chess and go supplies. All will be relatively close to you.

There are more beyond that, but I have no info on them.

There is also a gaming cafe - Emerald Tavern(?) nearby as well.

Gaming, gaming everywhere!!

Come to Wonko's on Wednesday night 7:00 sharp, and Emerald Tavern on Thursday night, just drop in whenever and join in the next round of One Night/Avalon/Coup/???. I went to both without knowing anyone several months ago and have gone back nearly every week since. I'll keep an eye out for you!

How often do we get someone new to the country who is also a board gamer?

I run Board Game Bash, so what about this: As both a welcome to America and welcome to Austin, come on down to Board Game Bash to check it out, no charge. Maybe you can play one game, or even just walk around and chat with people for a couple hours, but if you're a gamer, I think it'll be well worth checking out the convention to meet some of the amazing people we have here that play.

What better way could you say you started your life in Austin than with a board game convention?!? Shoot me an e-mail at info@boardgamebash.com, and just say that you're the guy from Spain on BGG. I can get both you and your wife set up at the registration booth, and can show you around.

Welcome to Texas, as it has been said by many already there are plenty of gaming groups in Austin and several stores that run game nights etc.

On another note there is a tapas restaraunt in Austin called Barlata and the owner is from Madrid and another Spain connection is I lived in Spain for 5 years in Sevilla. Anyways, glad to see a Spaniard make his way to Texas.
