I read somewhere that by wars end, the Germans were so lacking in resources that they were using wood pulp to manufacture uniforms- after some time in the field they looked much like Adolfs....

Actually wood pulp was quite commonly added to clothing in that era and still is added to clothing today. It alone does not mean that a certain fabric is cheaply made. In fact many expensive fabrics are made with wood pulp and likely you are wearing cloths with wood pulp in them as you read this.

This according to my wife who just gave me a lecture on the subject of clothing and wood pulp...and enjoyed doing so far to much. I didn't help matters any by being a smart ass and asking her if cedar or teak was better for undies.
