Anyone know (from previous years) which hotel will have the best after show gaming?

I've got a reservation or two and I'm trying to decide whether it'll be worth the Atlantic's huge cost to get some games in of an evening.

Movenpick had 10-15 tables last year that went until very late. Good location and prices too.

Did they let visitors in as well?

No idea, but nobody asked us for proof of stay, so unless you come too late, I guess so.

The last two years I stayed at the Ibis near the train station and during the fair they opened up the whole breakfast area and lobby lounge for gaming. There's a bar with snacks too. For a SPIEL visitor it's an excellent place.

Atlantic-Congress does gaming space sometimes. I've been there once and the gaming room was enormous. But then I heard about (either 2012 or 2013) that they didn't open up anything.

Most hotels have gaming rooms available. At least the last few years Ibis has been the "hot-spot" , but tends to get very crowded.

Stayed at movenpick last couple of years, and it seems to be steadily picking up on gaming activity in the evening, last year was actually pretty crowded. We invited friends from other hotels over, and had no issues with that. Only rule is you are not allowed to bring drinks intot he room unless it is from the hotel bar, butthey did not enforce that to my knowledge.

Heard motel one was also pretty good last year.

Atlantis was apparently a big letdown last year. Normally it sees a lot of evening gaming, but last years the conference rooms were apparently booked by publishers for private use, so very little gaming space was available. Or maybe I am confusing it with the year before.

Our first spiel in 2011 we stayed at Ypsilon and they too had set aside a conference room for gaming. Not a lot of people there, but enough to get som nice games going, and few enough to actually get to know some people a bit better.

2012 Atlantic Congress space was one small room, too small to meet demand. We ended up bailing and using the table in the suite I had been upgraded to (for no apparent reason), which was okay but disappointing. 2013 their space was one very large room, and you could order drinks from them at the table (though you couldn't bring them in). The '13 space made me very happy.

I'm staying at the Movenpick next to the main strain station, so if there's after hours gaming there I'm not going to complain

Good to hear that they returned to their former 'glory'. I mean for those room prices, I'd hope so...

I admire and envy those people still being able to stay awake and play games after a day of running around at the fair. snore

Double brownie points for those who man a booth during the day and then at night play games

Well. I wouldn't miss the opportunity to play in the evening but even so I have to call it quits around midnight where as others seem to have no problem playing another 2 or 3 hours... Now *that* is crazy!

Is there any after-hours playing at the B&B Hotel (Essen)?
Or nearby?

Didn't stay there but some of my friends did so I went there one night. They have some great gaming activity in their very nicely furnished lobby. The staff seemed to have no problem with gamers rearranging the tables and chairs to fit their needs. I'd estimate around 10 games were running simultaneously.

I have stayed at Motel One the last two years. The staff is very friendly and even helps out rearranging sometimes. We are a huge danish group staying there.

My wife and I stayed in the B&B last year, there was some gaming going on in the lobby after hours, but no bar service or anything.

Nearby is the Holiday Inn Express at the Thea Leymann Strasse, we saw gaming going on there when we came back from dinner in town around 22.00hrs.

We just stayed the one night, so I'm not sure how it holds up this year and which nights.

We also stayed at B&B in 2012. After a certain hour they "kicked" us out of the sitting area. I wouldn't suggest B&B for evening gaming even though its a nice hotel and is fairly close to the fair. It is also close to the center of Essen if you want to visit some of the nice restaurants in the evening.

In 2013 we went back to the place we stayed in 2011 called Casino Rehmannshof. Its is a remote hotel about 12km away from the fair which means you'll need a car in order to stay there. The place is really nice and has lots of nice area to play games in the evening. We've decided to stay there this year as well and we'll most likely be staying there every year. It is far enough from Essen center and the fair ground to offer us a nice relaxing evening.

If anyone who's staying there is up for some after-show gaming i can bring some games, mainly nations and mice and mystics.

We're at the Moevenpick and gamed there last year despite staying at the Ibis which just got too crowded, there was no space!

So this year we will be staying where we intend to game. Last year they did not have a problem with non-guests, potentially a don't ask don't tell situation, but anyone can walk in so no worries there. Looking forward to testing out the Clash of Cultures expansion at some point!

We might visit some friends elsewhere also, not sure of complete plans yet.
