One of the things that I find most bizarre about the Western/international media is how censored it is while purporting to be free, Middle Eastern and Western media both report that ISIS had burned a church thought to be 1800 years old, although it's rather more prominently reported in Middle Eastern media. If one digs, one might even find in Western media that Christians are being told to convert or die in Mosel, Iraq, and that already many have been massacred. That's rather more prominent a story in Middle Eastern media. Yet one frightening detail is nearly universally left out except in Middle Eastern media. Look at that second link above again. Christians' houses are being marked by ISIS with the Arabic letter noon or nun (depending on one's pronunciation) for Christian; it's the Arabic cognate of the Hebrew word notzri meaning Christian. The only American news site seeming to report this important detail is a Conservative site few will take seriously.

The flight of Christians from the area was a lead on the BBC news at the weekend (ie in the headlines on the radio that I was listening to). It is difficult for Western media to operate in the ISIS controlled area. This makes fact checking much harder and thus stories or details that might otherwise be used don't pass the editorial stage. Also why do you consider this the most important element of the story - the parallel to previous anti Jewish pogroms?

Yes. They've said convert or die and now are marking their potential victims. Only a fool would slough it off.

This was more of an in general statement, as in the denial they have when putting forward certain kinds of things.

Dude. Get with the program. Pick a topic. Any topic. Make shit up and make it sound real.

There will be at least two libs post that they've been following that bit of news for years, and are experts.

Now that I think about it, you are frequently one of the two.
And at least two cons who claim no one knows about it, because the right wing bloggers have ignored it (which in this case is all rather odd, I would have thought they would have been slavering at the mouth about this it's all very "war on Christianity!" stuff the so love).

Now that I think about it, you are frequently one of the two.

Instead of making a new thread entitled, Liberals deny everything that has happened that they don't know about, and I made a comment in this thread which made me think of it.
No one in this thread is denying it happened, they are just saying they hadn't heard about it, until now.

Slater;

I know you're a self-made idiot but if you will let yourself use it, I'm convinced you do have a brain.

1. The claim of the OP was that certain details of the story did not make it through the US/UK/EU news media filter, not that the story was not reported at all.

2. The link given of where certain details were being reported was specifically to a conservative pro-Christian blog.

So your comment was off topic and a strawman.

Odd how no one until you and Koldie turned up made this an issue about left and right. Of course I realize this is not about America, so in some way you have to try and make it about something you can understand (in this case childish partisan political debate).

But the truth is this has been widely reported, and any informed person would have known about it.

I only heard of it because I have a Drudge app on my tablet. I use the tablet for maybe 10 minutes in the morning to catch the news via BBC app, NPR app and Drudge app. Neither of the others had this story yesterday via the apps. Only Drudge.

Just did a search on Google News and got back the report only via:

Breitbart
Ammon News
The Guardian Nigeria
The Telegraph UK

No doubt if one was inclined to spend 5 or 10 minutes searching for stories using different search parameters you could find it elsewhere. Of course you have to question whether it was being treated as "news" or as "not fitting the narrative" if you have to spend time unearthing it among the reports of James Garner dying or Israeli atrocities in Gaza.

From teh BBC article
Quote:
A senior Christian cleric said the Islamist militants had been seen tagging Christian houses in the city

From the telegraph article.

Quote:
In recent days, Islamic State fighters had reportedly been tagging Mosul’s Christian houses with the letter N for “Nassarah”, the term by which the Koran refers to Christians.

And another (from RTE)

Quote:
One of most Iraq's senior Christian clerics said that homes were being tagged with the letter N for "Nassarah" a term used in the Koran to refer to Christians.

So the fact that ISIS are marking Christian homes has been reported.

As much as it hurts, I thumbed jmilum's posts.

NPR had a ten (or so) minute segment on it this morning. They definitely mentioned Christian's houses being marked, but not certain they gave the name of the letter. Shia houses were also marked.

It's a horrible state of affairs. It will be interesting to see if "Never again!" actually kicks in across the world.

How do you think? The BBC and others use loaded language to distort things in virtually every story. So here it got a mention as a claim by a faction and so it's presented as not necessarily fact.

That's my thought as well. And I'm sure it's what Moshe really meant when he used the word "censured". Wrong word, but it does effectively define how the US and European media, in general, respond to actual news that shows Islamic extremism in action.

That's why I refer to the MSM as having an acceptable narrative. Any event that falls outside this narrative isn't censured in the sense that Putin's government censures some news, or China does. But it's effectively censured by being buried, under reported or just ignored.

Does anyone here in RSP outside Christians think this is valuable news to a nation of 300+ million people who self-identify (almost 75%) as Christians? I do. But the reality of the MSM media is that we, as a nation, are being told a story that Muslims are really just like "us". Us being more accepting as a nation of Christian ideas and ideals than of Muslim ones. So a story that shows Muslims doing things that Christians left behind them a couple hundred years ago doesn't help the narrative. It shows Islamic extremism is alive and well and more common in the supposedly peaceful Muslim states/nations than the MSM wants the average Christian-centric American to know.

But no Libtard in RSP is ever going to admit that. Instead they're going to report that the average American, with little or no effort, has access to this very important news story. Which is a lie. When you have to work to get news like this it's not news, it's a hidden nugget that is being buried in an avalanche of Israeli hit pieces and celebrity tattle-tale stories.

So are you saying the BBC is in favour of distorting things in favour of ISIS? Because they seem to be doing a very bad job of it from the reports I've read on the BBC. ISIS do not come out of them well. I don't think any European news source I've read is showing ISIS as anything other than very, very bad people and their success as a very, very bad thing.

Perhaps they simply hadn't had independent verification. It's entirely possible that Middle Eastern news sources have been able to back this particular detail up the in a way the BBC hasn't been able to, even if all the news sources demand the same level of checking. A claim of hundreds of witnesses is not the same as hundreds of witnesses. The BBC article doesn't say it's a rumour, it gives the statement of someone claiming to be an eyewitness. Unless their reporters have actually seen the letters, I don't think they should do more. Though this isn't the same as saying it's a rumour.

They could have simply not mentioned it at all.

This seems like a case of you distorting what the BBC are actually saying, again.
