The rules describe that a suit action is executed after each card played, but the rulebook example given doesn't describe that.

When playing with 2p, do the players take a suit action after each card played into the trick, or only after cards that are played out of suit (like in the regular game)?

The example is correct, and it is the same as with any player count:

- Player 1 leads a (say) 8 Hearts.
- Player 2 plays a 2 Diamonds... and takes a Diamonds suit action.
- Player 1 plays a 11 Diamonds... and takes a Diamonds suit action.
- Player 2 plays a 10 Spades... and takes a Spades suit Action.

Whenever a card is played out of the lead suit, you get the suit action of the card played.

Thanks Stephen, my confusion came from the following passage in the rulebook:

"To play Diamonds with 2 players, we recommend the following rules changes:
For each trick, each player plays 2 cards, one at a time, taking Suit Actions for each card played.
All other rules are the same. "

It sounds like I should read that as "...for each card played that doesn't match the leading suit of the trick."

The intent is to convey this:

For each trick, each player plays 2 cards, one at a time, taking Suit Actions for each card played, per the standard rules.

And the example describes it as such.

Sorry for any confusion.

So the winner of the trick still only gets one suit action?
