Deval Patrick wrote:
We are a great Nation. Unlike any other superpower, America's power, to paraphrase a great man, comes from giving, not from taking. America, and this Commonwealth in particular, has given sanctuary to desperate children for centuries. We have rescued Irish children from famine, Russian and Ukrainian children from religious persecution, Cambodian children from genocide, Haitian children from earthquakes, Sudanese children from civil war, and New Orleans children from Hurricane Katrina. Once, in 1939, we turned our backs on Jewish children fleeing the Nazis, and it remains a blight on our national reputation. The point is that this good Nation is great when we open our doors and our hearts to needy children, and diminished when we don't.

The other reason I have offered our help is more personal, less about patriotism and more about faith. I believe that we will one day have to answer for our actions -- and our inactions. My faith teaches that "if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him," but rather "love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt." (Lev. 19:33-34). We are admonished to take in the stranger, for "inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these," Christ tells us, "you did it to Me." (Matthew 25:43, 45). Every major faith tradition on earth charges its followers to treat others as we ourselves wish to be treated.

I don’t know what good there is in faith if we can’t and won’t turn to it in moments of human need.

Rick Perry Fucked Up? Yeah! Big Time!

galad2003 wrote:
Go Rick, Washington doesn't have the balls to do what needs to be done so time to step up. Git 'er done!

Well, isn't that nice! Rick Perry has actually called up enough Texas National Guardsmen to serve as auxiliary hosts in order to not only welcome undocumented Central American children looking for the proper authorities to turn themselves in to after crossing the border but also to protect and escort those kids to the nearest Immigration processing & holding center as called for by that law that passed by Congress and signed into law by George W. Bush in December 2008.

Let's compare Perry's words and deeds today with what he said and did back in 2011.

Extreme violence and abject poverty. I don't know where that fits in the list, but to me anything that kills kids is pretty bad.

It will cost $12 million a month. If Perry calls in the National Guard, then the state of Texas would be on the hook for that, but the GOP wants Washington to pay.

To what, pick up trash? Texas'es border with Mexico is 1200 miles long, that's 1.2 miles per serviceman. Considering the arms level in Mexico I'd say that puts the guard in danger more than anything else.

So they want people who do not live in Texas to pay for Texas's problem?

What the hell is going on in Texas? Illegal immigrants are an integrated part of the society and economy in a way that works for everybody-- or at least they were.

The day all of these "rule of law" idiots wake up without any immigrants they're going to be very, very confused about why entire industry sectors have slowed to a standstill.

You all complain about the rich buying their way out of their illegal activities, but you have no problem with these ILLEGALS?
Hilarious.

I don't think speeders should be executed, either. Is that dissonant to you in some way?

1. Who is "you all", boy?
2. I think the law is wrong fundamentally and is a smack in the face of everything America used to stand for.

EDIT:
BTW, I assume you're dismissing me as a liberal which is hilarious., If my views are liberal, then so is most of Texas.

A band with an unfortunate image (a mash-up of Kiss and Hair Metal), but some catchy tunes. Rick Perry can use it for his campaign.

An El Paso hellhole I couldn't get higher
White lightning moonshine tastes like fire
I drank for free till I couldn't see
I fell on the floor, what I said is

[Chorus]
I'm blind in Texas, the lone star is hot tonight
I'm blind in Texas, the cowboys have taken my eyes

I drank Dallas whiskey and lost my mind
Had high-balls in Houston, three for a dime
Everything starts to spin, loaded on gin
I fell out the door, what I said is

[Chorus]

San Antonio and the West Texas town El Paso
Corpus Christi and Waco, the Yellow Rose is wild

Hey dude, let's party
Raisin hell in Austin just after sundown
When the hoosegow police decided to come round-they said
"Boy what's the matter with you, what you trying to do?"
I looked at the man and I said

[Chorus]

I think I'll have another one
We ain't got no more
What do ya mean you ain't got no more liquor?
We ain't got no more, Go home
what do ya mean go home?
What am I supposed to do... get on a horse and ride back to LA
The hell you say... suffer!

I'm blind in Texas, the lone star is hot tonight
I'm blind in Texas, I'm blind (Texas, Texas, Texas)

Some parts might be, I don't know all of them, but the above is clear unlessyou live in a bubble, or an echo chamber.

It's illegal by Federal US Law. I'm not sure why you're trying to bring Jewish Law into this. It's US federal law vs. Texas state law.

As for Jewish Law, it states that a person's movement cannot be restricted without due cause-- and this includes at borders.
