As described in the rules (p16), healing your buddies (but not yourself), no matter how, scores you 5XP per wound/sanity healed. So there's rarely any incentive to heal yourself - you'd always want to have your nearby buddy pop the whiskey or pull out the bandages to help you out. Seems a bit quirky.

Discuss.

But then, I'm just desperate to discuss this game, because I can't wait to get my copy.

you will need some healing along the way and other heroes might not be close.
otherwise i think the reason is to stop healing yourself to be a too easy way to get XP

I think it is quite fine as it is.
You are rewarded for being cooperative.

Players are rewarded for being heroic and healing their companions over themselves.

As said earlier... co-op

It also depends on your role in the game. If your character isn't good at combat, you probably won't be getting as many of those 'last hits' in to get XP. You'll probably also want to heal the folks that are good at combat so that they are using their actions more effectively. So you get XP for healing while they are getting the XP for killing. Hooray for support roles!

And who wants to roll on the injury table? Not me! For that reason, I would heal myself.
