The question: Would this scenario end up like history? The REAL question: Would Doc Holliday survive at least one of my scenarios?
For this game I just let the AI play itself and I watched the action. The situation is the ambush of Wyatt Earps "Avenging Angels" by Curly Bill and his gang as the Angels ride through Mescal Springs. The stage is set and just to make things interesting fate plays Doc a dangerous hand by placing him close to Curly's gang at the set up.
There is lots of movement in the first turn. Curly Bill sees on of his guys start to yellow so he moves over to the right to get him up and firing(#10). The movement catches the eye of Doc who fearlessly moves a couple paces toward the rock outcropping and the shooting starts before half of Curly's gang can react to Doc jumping the gun. Wyatt knows that if he doesn't face this head on his angels will fly away so he upholsterers his gun and moves towards the bobbing hats behind the rocks. Warren and McMasters each get a round off at the rocks. Curly Bill is hoppin' mad by now as his ambush starts to go sour.
Turn two is a desperate exchange of gun fire as both sides try to figure out how to win this possibly deadly little exchange. For the most part each side is holding their ground but in turn three both sides start to unravel. Jack Johnson and Sherm McMasters turn high tail and start to skedaddle as fast as they can and Curly Bill's mustache parts into a grin. His grin is short lived as he turns to see one of his gang runnin' away. A close shot ricochets off the rock next to his head and he hits the ground to save his skin.
Wyatt has pulled out a rifle and is firing away at his position. Doc Holliday is just standing like he's invincible putting lead in the air. Curly can't believe it, Doc's recklessness is scarin' the hell out of his gang and they keep moving around to try to get a better shot at him. Finally someone wings Doc. The man next to Curly goes down with 5 shots to his head and body.
Curly jumps up and starts firing like the crazy man...Wyatt has to pay for the OK Coral one way or another. Warren Earp can see the look in Curly's blood thirsty face and he turns and runs leaving just Doc and Wyatt to face the three remaining gang members. Curly yells out to one of his men to try to flank Doc in hopes of distracting him. One man tell's Curly he's just plum crazy and he turns and runs off but another moves toward Holliday. Doc's attention turns toward the man on his left and a lone bullet goes through his rib cage and tears into his heart...dang he was doing so good this time. That's a big 0-3 for Doc Holliday in my games...yikes. He hits the dirt without even the hope of a good death scene talk with Wyatt.
Well it's only been five turns but this is it. Wyatt and Curly Bill face off. Curly has the advantage of the rocks but Wyatt has the advantage of a rifle. Curly gets his shots off first...just misses. He puts his head to the side to spit some chew but that's the last thing he does. Wyatt puts his rifle down as Curly's hat falls in front of the rocks. Curly slumps to the ground. What a crazy end to the scenario.
Overall the AI worked on both sides and the action made sense. Of all the games I have this is probably the quickest and most deadly game. I am always surprised at the simpleness of the rules. Now, off to the saloon to drink one in honor of the Doc.
