There was quite a bit of discussion after our last MVNSMT and I thought it might be a good idea to have a MVNSMT thread that is more general in nature -- rather then dealing with any specific MT.

This is that thread.

My current plan is to host two or three MVNSMT a year -- definitely no more. Personally, I think one every six months is better than one every four months but, for the moment, I'm going to try the latter. Here's why: this whole thing started out of a desire to have a MT at the Terminal City Tabletop Convention (TCTC), which took place last May. This was a terrific idea, but it didn't come to pass for various reasons. The next TCTC will take place in February -- some eight months after the last MVNSMT and perhaps too long to wait for some of us! To alleviate the anxiety, I will conduct another one in autumn, so that each MVNSMT is about four months apart.

So, the plan is to have the next MVNSMT in October, followed by another in February to coincide with TCTC. Watch this space!

Fantastic Idea.
And I agree with your going forward dates. I have discussed the experience with other gamers in my circle and they are interested in a Math trade and sorry to have missed the last one.

Being as it was also my first I scrambled to understand and to get through the process... many many more games to trade.

Thanks!

I think you've laid out a good starting plan. I'll look forward to the October one and hope that I've got some better stuff to trade this time. I'm VERY happy with what I got last time!

I guess doing it thirdly (is there a word for three times a year? triannually?) is a good start. By the time February rolls around we can see how people feel about it and then switch to semi-annually if people feel that 4 months is too short. It's just a matter of deciding when. April/May and October/November are probably good.

Y'know what else I need to do? Play more of my backlog of games to see which ones I really want to keep and which ones I might be willing to part with. The more to trade the more fun I can have! Better get on that!

Many/most of you will have seen the Canada-wide math trade which is on now. Please do participate, if you are able and so inclined.

For those of you who end up trading with local folks, you may wish to arrange an in-person encounter to save on shipping.

Think of it this way: this gives you and everyone else lots of time to stock up on great items to trade.

This hurts me more than it hurts you. laugh

VCON is Oct 3-5

I would require it not conflict with that, and I expect others would agree.

Given that, I'd suggest at least 2 weeks after... Sunday the 5th is VCON, next weekend is Thanksgiving, Monday the 13.

Plus people will acquire new games at VCON, so some time to check those out.

Henceforth I propose Sunday, October 19th for the next meetup. Offers and such before that, obviously

Don't worry -- it's in the works. It's going to be mid- to late-October, so no need to panic. I'm in Ontario until Friday and, upon my return, I will continue my preparations.

In short: it's on, in about 5 to 6 weeks time (approximately).

Awesome. I was about to ask just yesterday, then put it off to today and. Poof. You already did. It's like extrasensory-perspiration or something.

Thank you Juxtatype for replying and not forgetting about us!

I'm not sure what "extrasensory-perspiration" is, but it doesn't sound good—I'm sweating just thinking about it!

Dang! Looks like I need to get my Trades list updated. As in started. I need to move all the entries from last time into Trades (just so that they are there) and then add a whole bunch more! Thanks for the heads-up!

How easy is that to get to by Skytrain?

Very easy. Go to Scott Road Station.

Catch the 319 bus from bay 9.

15 minute ride. Get off at 80th

3 minute walk to venue.

People aren't required or expected to stay all 24 hours.

Hi dudes! New to the community and am interested in participating. I think I've got a few cool games that people might like.

I'm vaguely aware of what math trades are, but what exactly do I need to do to prepare for this? Thanks!

edit: I accidentally a word

Wait. Eventually (soon?) there will be an announcement in the global math trades list, and hopefully here as well, that it's underway with all kinds of links. Then read EVERYTHING and ASK QUESTIONS, because, depending on the software being used, you will be VERY CONFUSED. But eventually it'll work out and start to make sense.

One thing that might help is putting all your games up in your Trades list. I need to still do that. Once that's done, and the Math Trade starts, I *think* it's fairly easy to import everything. The only catch is that there's a specific format they you need to use in the description. It might be best to look at the previous Math Trade and see if you can follow the instructions there and learn what needs to be done.

Prepare yourself.

Batten down your hatches.

Notify your friends (in BC, AB, & WA).

Fasten your safety belts.

Gather your neighbours.

Secure your valuables.

Identify your games.

The next MVNSMT (Metro-Vancouver No-Ship Math Trade) will be starting in less than 10 days.

You have been warned!
