Sorry if this was answered in another thread, but I recently went over the rules to Arcanum and have a question about wounds. Is there any game effect that makes the difference between a monster or character with 3 small wounds, 2 medium, and a large and a monster or character with 15 (small) wounds? It seems to me that, if I am interpreting the rules correctly, there is none. A related question is this: If a card effect allows you to heal a small wound, can you "break up" a medium and turn it into a small?

An unrelated question: What happened to the Avalon Games website? Is it permanently closed?

EDIT: The website is back up.

I'm no expert, but I've recently been rewriting the rules (among a bunch of other tweaks and upgrades to this pretty neat game). Here's how I interpret these things:

Game effect-wise, there is a difference in that certain healing cards only work to heal certain types of wounds. I do not think that healing a medium wound would allow you to break it up into two small wounds. However, I'd say that you could play however you want -- it's a game

The wounding mechanics are probably the section of the rules that need the most work, because they're not very clearly explained. As written, there's a separation between types but it's clear when you can 'trade' between them. A simple variant is to simply play with small wounds as hp...

As for Avalon Games, their site is here: http://www.avalon-games.com/

I've tried to elaborate on this here:

I think I will actually play with different healing rules. You can use a large healing power to heal smalls, but only half of what you would normally heal (so, you could only heal 2 smalls). That way some of the higher level healing abilities can always be helpful, but the lower level ones will still get use.
