Coincidentally, the trailer for a movie with this exact title just came out, today. I guess it's an adaptation of a book that nobody has heard of, or something? Definitely not something wildly and unjustifiably profitable, anyway...

(Note: I have no idea if that is SFW or not, I can't bring myself to click it. I assume it is, but who knows.)

I'd imagine the movie going as well as twilight did.
My wife lost all movie credibility after that one.

The first click is reasonably safe for work. The movie trailer only hints at the fun near the end.

What? I've been entertained by such stories (and a few movies) for years.

The 50 shades series was originally written and submitted on a Twilight fan-fiction website. After it garnered huge attention, it was rewritten to change Edward & Bella to new characters and then fully published, so the connection between the two is correct.

I try my hardest not to get angry about stuff like this, but my wife knows that mentioning Twilight or 50 Shades sends me off into some irrational rage.

It's horrible literature, and will be a horrible movie. There are plenty of other authors, books, and movies that approach the same subjects, and do so in infinitely better fashion. For some reason, though, its 50 Shades that gets green-lit and sells tons of copies. angry

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

What makes the "50 Shades" movie different from a regular porno? From watching the trailer, apparently only the production values. And maybe a slightly more believable plot. (I haven't read any of the books, so I wouldn't know.)

It's porn for people who have never seen porn. People talk about how salacious it is, but 30 seconds on the right search engine would have those peoples' heads spinning.

SNL did a good bit about this last year for mothers day. can't find it at work though.

but your right its an intro to porn or intro to BDSM. nothing majorly "out there" compared to others but for those that haven't experienced or have any knowledge about it. its quite taboo.

The R rating. In terms of plot, a female character so sexually naive you have to wonder if you wouldn't classify her as sexually retarded. So yes, the plot will be better than porn, but that's kind of like going to a basketball game and trying to find baseball.

And because this thread demands this review to be linked, here's one of the most glorious reviews you'll read on the internet. And yes, they covered the whole series. You're welcome.

For the record, I am female, and have not read 50 Shades nor am I interested in doing so. I have seen excerpts and it/the sex scenes seem 10,000 worse than the lamest gothic romance novels I read as a teen.

Even worse than this film? They are making a TV series of the horrific Outlander books!!! UGH!!!!!!! http://www.starz.com/originals/outlander

The (too many) rape scenes in Pillars of the Earth is more tolerable than the "consensual" [cough, cough] rape in Outlander.

Absolutely AWFUL!!!
