My wife and I are fortunate enough to be going to Ireland (flying out tomorrow!) for our one year wedding anniversary. Are there any game shops or games native to Ireland to keep an eye out for? Would love to bring home a gaming related souvenir.

I spent 8 days in Ireland in May 2013, and had such a great time. We were in the southwest part primarily (County Claire and surroundings).

Loved it. Just enjoy it. I wouldn't even think about boardgaming, there's so much to see and do.

And every meal should start and end with a pint of Guinness.

+1 for Guinness. The best place to drink one is at the top of the Guinness factory. The bar there has a 360o panoramic view of Dublin.

Also be wary of the weather. It takes about half an hour for it to go from hot and sunny to cold and rainy... And back again! cool

I was there a couple of years ago.

Irish people are one of the nicest bunch of folks I ever encountered. I especially recommend the pubs in the countryside (we navigated the River Shannon with a houseboat). But watch out: they can put you under the table in a nutshell

I bought a Trivial Pursuit Irish Edition in Dublin, and now I do know the highest village of Ireland ... it's absolutely useless knowledge, but great to boast at parties!

And in case you wonder: it's Roundwood! meeple

On a serious note, my understanding is that Ireland has some fantastic castle ruins- I personally would be trying to hit as many of those locations as possible. Between pubs!

A breathtakingly* beautiful red-head I once met named Kiera, just outside of Cork?

*Not kidding ... the first time I saw her I literally gasped out loud.

Are you going to Galway City, call into Dungeons & Donuts and try their gaming/geek related donuts? I mean:

Ooh, dungeons and donuts looks cool! We may be going back through Galway. Do they have many games other than magic and RPGs?

Love it here, btw.

They, along with my FLGS The Gathering here in Limerick city, would have a modest board game selection.

Thanks Martin! I don't suppose there are any game stores close to Waterville or Dingle?

Off the top of my head I don't think so, I doubt even the capital city of the county (Tralee) would have one. Cork and Limerick would be the nearest I believe and they would be well out of the way for you.

That's alright, I believe we are going to Cork for the day on Thursday, so I will check out Other Realms then.

Pubs.

Guinness and darts are a bad combination.

I was in Ireland for a few weeks last month. We made it a point to visit Gamer's World and Games Workshop hoping to find something unique. The only real difference was the € instead of the $ on the price tag.

We did have great weather for some hill walking up Carrauntoohil (Co Kerry) and around the Glencoaghan Horseshoe (Connemara in Co Galway).

Enjoy your trip.
