To put the faction symbol on the "one" side of the faction dice? So every time I roll poorly, I'm taunted by my faction symbol?

And why isn't there more outrage about this very important topic?

It would have just been weird if they had put it on the "two" or "three" side!

That would have been so totally weird, it would have almost been awesome.

Simple.

Roll your die and count the pips. Add two. If the result is over six, subtract six.

Your faction symbol is now on your "three" side.

You are very welcome.

Haha I'm with you on this one! My first experience with custom dice was for a game where the manufacturer put the symbol (correctly!) on the 6. Cheers all around when 6's are rolled.

But it has always baffled me for games where 6 is good and 1 is bad that the publisher puts their symbol on the 1. What the heck??

"Correct" is a matter of opinion. I consider it "correct" to use the symbol for the 1 pip because it's one picture, not six.

To answer the question, it was Steve's call where to put it and I believe most SJG dice do it that way. IIRC, there was a survey about it, too (or maybe that was just a survey about rounded vs hard-edged). That didn't go the way I wanted (I prefer hard-edged), but the larger size makes the rounded edges not too bad.

My decision to put the symbol on the "1" of my custom dice is informed by two things:

One - as David puts it, one symbol = one pip

Two - I worked in a game store for years, and then did about a two-year tour of duty with a (now defunct - not my fault!) game distributor. Koplow's custom dice always had the image replacing the "1" so that's what I think of when I think of custom dice.

So long as the "one" is replaced by one symbol of something bad, I'm cool with that. But the symbol of my might faction, showing up when I roll a stinker?

I scratch my head in befuddlement.

It really is as easy as rolling the opposing faction dice. Or just tell the world: Ones are sixes and sixes are ones.

Rackham put their kick-ass dragon on the 6 as I recall. Seeing the logo pop up on rolls produced fist-pumping good feelings.

Of course "correct" is subjective and it should be in quotes. :-)

For Munchkin, I'm almost cool with the logo being a 1 - when you play Munchkin you don't roll the dice every round after all. And when playing Munchkin you expect bad stuff to happen as part of the fun!

I consider it proud defiance in the face of defeat.
