I play this version of terrace with the full sized set by simply using less pieces and staying a restricted portion of the board.

Overall, this version of the game may be more fun for many as it does not last as long and the strategy is not as complex. In particular, it is much easier to visualize upcoming moves. In the full sized game planning often takes about a minutes as there are so many choices and so many possiblities to account for. Thus the overal game length is decreased from around 30-60 minutes down to 10 to 20.

One draw back is that the game no suffers from some repititiveness. After you play the game 20 times, many of the moves become predictable. If you buy this game and play it often, you may decide to buy the larger one after a while.

The gameplay is still the same. The goal of the game is to either capture your opponents smallest piece (the "T"), or to move you smallest peice across the board to the lowest area on your opponents start line.

The game is unique from most other board games in that it is played on three dimensions. Bigger or same-sized peices can capture other pieces (and remove them from play) by move down a level on the diagonal. Any peice can move up, to any adjacent uoccupied square. The game is actually quite simple if you read the instructions, but can take a few times to really get the hang of it.

If you like game like Othello, chess, checkers, etc... Then terrance is for you. If you don't like those types of games then stay away, as this is quite an intense game. I'd put it on par with chess for complexity, even though the rules are much easier to learn.
