We then split into two groups. Rick, Diane, Chris and new arrival David played Ra – the rest went for Carcassonne and For Sale.
Diane had played Ra once before, Chris was a newbie. Ra is not a difficult game, but the number of different scoring options can be a bit overwhelming the first game. Chris took to it very quickly and before long was bidding up a storm with the rest of us. David had a played Ra a number of times before and was on a losing streak – something he was intent on changing this game. And he did!
The first round went on incredibly long, the Ra tiles were just nowhere to be seen. As a matter of fact, for the first time in any of our games, all of us ran out of suns to bid before the last Ra tile came up. The second round was of more normal duration, the last round rocketed by as the Ra tiles came up fast and furious.
At the end, David skunks the rest of us with huge monument points (20). Diane also had big monument points but lost 7 points for the least pharaohs and suns.
