I recently created some card tuckboxes for Dead of Winter, which I uploaded to BGG, and I thought it would be worth showing how they work with the whole system.

First, I started with a plastic Plano-style organizer, which I purchased at a Michael's in a three-pack, for around $5:

I had some larger Ziploc style bags which I purchased at a dollar store, and combined with the tuckboxes and plastic storage container, everything fits pretty well into the original box with the original insert.

I might ditch the plastic baggies and come up with a better storage solution for the zombies, but so far, I really like this approach. Keeps everything neatly organized, and I just flip open the box and draw the tokens right from it.

Now, if I could only figure out a way to shorten the time it takes to shuffle up all of the cards...

Thanks! I've got a few minor things I'd like to tweak if I ever do a version 2, but so far they have been working well. I will definitely use the same Gimp plugin if I ever make tuckboxes again - it's way easier than creating an outline with some other program, then adding your art to it. The Gimp plugin puts each 'face' on a separate layer, with a mask, so you can simply paste your art into the correct layer. Very handy.

They will if you take the insert out. Inserts are for dweebs anyway. I read about it in a comic book.

I believe we're confusing the terminology here. "Tuck box" refers to the cardstock boxes which I printed out on an inkjet printer and glued together. These hold the cards. The file is available on BGG - you download it and print your own copies. No purchase required.

The plastic boxes are what I purchased from Micheal's.

Did you buy a plastic card box? I've usually seen them referred to as "deck boxes", not tuck boxes.

Mine do not - however, if you check the Files section here on BGG, somebody else create a set of tuckboxes for sleeved cards.

Yeah, sorry I meant the little lunch box thing for tokens. I always get confused by that. In England, 'tuck' is slang for food, primarily sweet treats, so i always get confused about card boxes

Buy black foam board and the plastic case at Michaels Craft Store.

Have them cut the following:
2x 11 1/4" x 2 1/4"
3x 11" x 2 1/4"
1x 6 7/8" x 2 1/4"

Glue if you want.

Edit: Bits are under the zombies.

Are your cards sleeved in those deck boxes?

Looks great and thanks for including the measurements...

One question though; looking at your picture, I see 6 pieces of foam board (2 long horizontal, 1 short horizontal, and 3 long vertical)...I'm assuming the box is square, so the other piece would be another 11" x 2 1/4" (long vertical), is that right?

Thanks for your specs David. Went to Michael's this past weekend, got 'em to cut the foam board to these specifications, and bought the plastic storage box to boot. Went to my local game store and bought 4 deck boxes as well. Everything fits perfectly and is much better organized than the original insert. Thanks again!

I am trying to do something similar to what you, David and Mitch, are doing but I am not able to fit all of the cards in the 4 deck boxes. Were you able to fit all of the cards in the deck boxes? My cards are sleeved with Fantasy Flight sleeves.

I will post my 4 tuck box storage solution. I know one of them is all the Crossroad cards, and I think one is Locations 2-6? Maybe 3-6...

I'll let you know...

Do you have a link for the plastic box? Also, what's the ballpark on the cost of the foam stuff? I want to see if this is worth me going to Michaels for.

I can't remember the cost of the foam, they wanted something crazy like $1 per cut to use the machine in the back, but I negotiated with him before I said OK to making them.

or you could make a custom insert where everyting fits in perfect , and easy for setting up the game

took me about 3-4 hours to make , even has room enough for when the cards get sleeved

Is there a station in the store where the foam is and they cut it? How does that work? What and where is the foam?
