Marc-Andre just bought the game Hacienda and the explanations of the rules went very well. As some other game we like, the mechanic if very simple but this seems a game with very deep strategy. We began with a game of practice to make sure we understood the rules well and everything went good so we decided to go for a real game.
Some players already had their strategy ready. Nathalie and Marc began in the middle of the map being close to many markets and Pierre, Martin and Mario began near the lakes on the edge of the map. Mario build many consecutive land tiles on the mountains, marsh and forest and near one of the lake, so he beginning was slow but then each time he would add pig tile on the lake he won good amount of money. This seems like a very good strategy since it didn't many tile to win lot of money. Mario scored 39 points in round 1. With this great start Mario didn't have any money problem and in the second round he bought many small lakes and put them in his area to prepare a big scoring. Marc Andre tried to score high in connecting many markets but it wasn't enough to catch Mario. Mario definitly had a good plan and we didn't do anything to stop him. We had too much work to do in our own area.
We really appreciated this new game. In the last years there was not a lot of new games that were appreciated in our group. Another interesting fact is that we can play it with 5 players. There not a lot of good heavy strategy games that allow this number of players.
