I read somewhere in the forum that some players named each of the bowls of power differently, not just Bowl 1, Bowl 2 and Bowl 3. I think it is something like "ready" "manifest" etc which I couldn't find (and googled) anywhere. Does anyone read and remember the names? Many thanks in advance ^_^ The names would surely give more thematical feel to the game, instead of just being the generic Bowl 1/2/3.

I've been subscribed to the TM forums for some time now, and I don't remember ever seeing a thread about this. If there was a discussion about this on the BGG forums, I don't think it was a very big discussion.

But anyway, it's not a bad idea. Do you have any proposals for names?

I disagree other than the fact that anything at all about Terra Mystica is definitionally a first world problem.

Effective naming would make the mechanic clearer to new players. As it is, as helpful as the icons on the player board are, this is a stumbling block that confuses people and is only clear after several missteps two-thirds through the first game.

I don't know that there's a good answer here. But it is worth looking for one.

If we're going to be super-serious, a new naming scheme is 100% not necessary. After game 1 the mechanic is clear enough.

What would be really helpful is to renumber the bowls from 1/2/3 to 0/1/2 and double all the costs where you spend power. That would really reduce confusion for new players.
"What? You tell me if I get 4 power and spend 4 power I have less than before?"

Well, when I first saw this thread I misread its title as "bowels of power."

Does that count?

When I first read the new names, I thought that it could give a more thematical feel to the game instead of just being a gameplay mechanism laugh

A friend of mine noted that the symbol of the triple goddess appears in a few places in the game's artwork. So if you wanted thematically appropriate names, you could base it on this. However, this is really a meme that appears in many mythologies, so there is no one definitive set of names that would match.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_deity

My personal favorite would be Persephone, Luna, and Diana because you could match the names to the physical positions on the board. Persephone was goddess of the underworld, so she would be in the lower bowl (1). Luna, the moon goddess would obviously be the higher bowl (2). Diana, the earth goddess, is between them (bowl 3).

Making an Earth goddess the owner of bowl 3 might give an unfair advantage to the Halflings and Dwarves?

Since we're talking about power, how about something based around Ohm's Law and the so-called Power Triangle:

I-V-R

I = Amps (current in Amperage)
V = Volts (voltage)
R = Resistance (in Ohms)

Or other power measurements like "Watts" and "Joules". The watt is a measurement of the rate of energy being CONVERTED to a different type of energy, so that fits well with the conversion between bowls.
