I'm going out for beers after work, this eve, and the place that I favor has fantastic beer selection on-tap, but not so much choice when it comes to food.
Their pizza is top-notch, however the only other options are a quesadilla, or nachoes. That's it, that's all.

What's your favorite "pub grub"?

If I have my choice, I almost always go with fish 'n' chips because I don't make those at home.

Many places have a decent burger, I'm not a fan of wings, but I do like a nice "pie" on a cooler evening.

Here are some pictures to get you in the mood, and a poll to follow:

Poll
What's your favorite food to eat at a bar/ pub?
I don't eat-- must save room for booze
Free salty snacks (peanuts/ pretzels/ popcorn)
Shepherd's Pie (or other pastry-style meat pie)
Fish 'n' chips
Calamari
Oysters (or Mussels)
Nachoes
Chicken Wings
Burger (or "sliders")
Pizza
Steak Sandwich
Beef Dip (or Deli-style sandwich)
Quesadilla (or other kind of "wrap")
Pasta
Salad

Really? I think it's a law that if you open a bar in Iowa, you have to have tenderloins and cheese balls on your menu.

When I intend to spend a long time at a pub and I'm not planning on a real "meal," my favorite food is Buffalo wings. I especially enjoy places that serve "all you can eat" wings for a fixed price or they offer them at a low price, like 20 cents each. Then I can order some wings, wait a while and drink a few beers, then order some more wings. I especially enjoy this when I'm at a pub watching baseball or football and I can watch the game and munch on wings.

I voted for Shepherd's Pie, even though it isn't a "pastry-style" meat pie. It is topped with mashed potato - no pastry at all.

Generally, British pub food is just awful, you wouldn't give it to a dog. And expensive for what you get. I plump for the all day breakfast if it's there. Pink slurry sausages but the rest is hard to ruin. I did have a lamb roghan nosh a month back that wasn't too terrible and had actual lamb flavoured lamb in it. Small portion though.

Only one 'fried' option, really?

What happened to breaded mushrooms? Cheese sticks? Deep-fried pickles or jalapenos?

We've got a pub in town that does these cheese-stuffed, deep-fried, jalapenos that are just the *awesome* pub fair (also really, really greasy, so...it'd be a grave miscalculation to eat a lot of them)

I was working outside of London about 10 years ago. I went into a pub with my heart set on eating a plate of bangers and mash. Guess what? They were all out of bangers. I can't remember what I ate instead, but I got on a plane and flew home a day or two later and I never got my damned bangers and mash.

The idea of going to a bar and not ordering something fried is alien to me.

Items on the bar menus around here that I don't see above:

-Fried Pickles

-Sonoron Hot Dogs (A hot dog, wrapped in bacon, grilled, served in a large bolillo roll, filled with pinto beans, pico de gallo, jalapenos, and various sauces.)

-Large/gourmet bavarian style pretzel. (Baked, served hot, with ground rock salt and mustard or white whine cheddar dip, not the free in a bowl kind.)

I got to that age that I hardly go to any bar other than "my bar".
This is in the menu at about US$7.

I have no idea how commom it is around other parts of the country. But if you ever come to the south of Brazil, I invite you to this and local craft beers, my treat.

I think fried cassava tastes similar to (but better than) french fries . . . I would prefer to eat the cassava.

It really depends on the place.
At the bar/restaurant we have our Thursday night Beer & Boardgames meetup I usually go for the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with the gouda mac side (lots of napkins and IPAs). Other places I'll order whatever they do well. Burgers or wings are standards almost anywhere, but I'll eat whatever they do well, or no food at all if their kitchen hasn't been cleaned since the Fillmore administration.
(yes, I've had a drink or two in places like thatgulp)

I generally go for beef or chicken burgers with salad and aoli fries, but out local gaming pub does excellent pizzas that are cheap on gaming night, so I often go with those. They do a pretty good rice and curry option.

I thought proper pub food was a packet of pork scratchings and a pickled egg or two. Maybe a cheese toastie if the barmaid could be arsed

Izakayas were the best thing in Japan. A constant stream of cheap beer, edamame, yakitori, basashi....

England is different. Eating and drinking are separate things. Either you're going for a pub meal (which will be supplemented by a couple of beers) or you're going out drinking and at most you'll get some crisps or peanuts.

Although the food there is hardly top quality, chain pub Wetherspoons is great value for reheated food. the Mexican burger is a favourite of mine, curry night is good value, the roasts are big and on steak day the other day my wife picked up this lot for £6.

Absolutely. My local doesn't really do food. The pub we game in does pretty decent Thai food.
