Had posted this as part of a reply in the FAQ thread.
This is a mechanic that works for group members that would not like to be killed off so easily (unless it's a chestburster- if you get that, this won't help).
Rules are as follows:
Find a counter, we use a 6d, which starts face up at 2.
This number (2 in this example) represents how many "Resuscitation Attempts" are left to be made on this Avatar if they are "Incapacitated" by their HP reaching 0.
If the HP of any player who chooses to play with this mechanic reaches 0, they are immediately rendered as "Incapacitated". They immediately discard their hand and cannot do anything unless they are "Resuscitated".
To be Resuscitated the other players must pay a "Resuscitation Cost" which is equal to the "Defense" value on the Avatar card of the incapacitated player.
One or more players may pay this cost, if no one chooses to pay it the incapacitated player is eliminated.
If the cost is paid, all strikes are removed from the incapacitated player, the player draws a new hand and the "Resuscitation Counter" is lowered by one (we turned the 6d to 1). They skip the current and following turn as they are "resting". After the current and following turn is complete they rejoin the game.
The player is definitively eliminated if either:
A. No one chooses to resuscitate.
B. They have been incapacitated so many times the counter hits 0.
C. They are killed by a chestburster. In this case, the resuscitation mechanic does not apply, there is no coming back from that.
We've played with this a couple of times and it's pretty hilarious when things are going to hell and you make the hard decision not to resuscitate a friend.
Probably self explanatory but it does not apply to solo play.
