Back in the 80s, Texkarkana had TexarKon, a science fiction convention that ran for a few years, my first exposure to organized fandom. It was a wonderland to a early teenage nerd.

TexarKon fell apart but now, for the past few years, we've had ArkLaTex Comic-Con...

Can't be at Dragon*Con this year, so I'm supporting the local efforts.

I'm going to be playing Metamorphosis Alpha, run by the creator, James M. Ward (one of the original creators at TSR Hobbies, creator of MA and Gamma Word).

Also, producing a story on the weekend for KTXK...

Should be a good weekend.

I think I have a PDF of the original MA rulebook, I might have to load it up and give it a perusal. I never actually got to play it, but we did play lots of Gamma World back in the day.

At GenCon, I saw a preview of the new hardbound edition of M:A. Looks very impressive, with all the add-on stuff (sounded like everything Jim Ward ever wrote for and about the game is included)... but a lot of money for what amounts almost surely to little more than a trip down memory lane.

Like most old school RPGs, heavily dependent on the GM, but the base game is sound and with James Ward GMing, and he is REALLY good, it was a grand time. A lethal adventure, as most convention scenarios are, but still a great time.

Do you know if anybody captured any or all of it on video? I'd love to watch him in action.

Was James King there? It couldn't have been that far from him, right?

No vid, but a few photos on Facebook. Plus, I just produced a news package about the Con which had some choice audio from the session. I'll post the link to the story as soon as it is up.
