I know there's a geeklist with some of this information, but it's a bit out of date and incomplete.

If you are aware of a game store or meetup group (or informal group welcome to new members) in New Mexico, please post information (preferably with a link) here. I'll get it over to the geeklist, and people looking specifically here will have a list here to find.

Thanks!

Unfortunately there is VERY little here in NM. We have have a small (informal) group that meets weekly here in Albuquerque. We are always looking for new gamers... Feel free to have them GeekMail me about attending. Maybe I'll get something more formal put together in the coming months.

So, there's some stuff that goes on in ABQ and the rest of NM. Most of my experience is around ABQ, but I've found some other stuff with some searching that I've included as well. In my opinion, the best of those is also, unfortunately, the most infrequent:

1) Game Night Every Night
Despite it's rather optimistic naming, this group meets up once, most months. It's run by a bunch of great guys, who pay for the space out of pocket, although they recently ran a kickstarter trying to get money to help them expand, as they're growing out of the space they're currently using, however it was unsuccessful. Make room in your calendar whenever they have a gaming day, it's well worth it. Relevant links:

2) Active Imagination Game Nights
The official open gaming night is Thursday, but there's an unofficial Wednesday one as well. On Tuesdays, local game designers come in and look for people to help playtest their new games. I've shown up a few times, and while people definitely seem to be enjoying themselves, my personal experience has been that it's not the most welcoming atmosphere, but that's completely negated if you bring your own friends. The owner is a good guy, always friendly. The staff are also very welcoming, albeit much more knowledgeable about MtG than board games (I can't fault them for that, as far as I know, Magic the Gathering is responsible for the majority of the revenue in hobby stores). I know they also do midnight launches for new Magic releases and stuff.

3) Twin Suns Comics and Games
I've only been here a few times. My overall impression was that the store is well stocked, clean, and has plenty of space for open gaming. Their website says that Saturdays and Sundays are for open gaming (they open at 11/12 on Sat/Sun respectively, despite the website calendar saying open gaming starts at 7:00am). There were certainly people playing games there when I've been there on weekends, but that's all I know.

4) Zia Games
I've stumbled across mentions of them now and then, but I don't know more than that. They're hosting a Star Wars X-Wing tournament today, which I'm planning on showing up to, so hopefully I'll know more about them.

5) Kaboom Test Labs
Never been, found it on a list. Is liked on FB by some local board gamers who's opinions I respect.

6) Zia Comics, Las Cruces NM
I genuinely know nothing about this place. I found it just now while trying to find information on #4.

7) Good Games Store, Farmington NM
Recently opened (in early 2014 I believe) never been, likely won't because it's a long way away.

8) Los Alamos, local gaming group
See BGG thread: http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1119062/new-mexico-gaming-lo... Nothing official, just seems like a local group that might be welcoming to new members.

Hope this helps!

Santa Fe -Monday nights http://www.meetup.com/sfgamers/events/206281112/

Los Alamos has one every Friday night at the Diamond Mix, I have the contact information for the person who runs the group up there... It was still going when I left at the end of August.

Edit - Found the Los Alamos Meetup group...

Thanks to you both! I've known about AI forever, but its clear on the other side of town for me...

Im on the West Side and go to Twin Suns regularly, but I only ever see CCGs being played. They have a really nice space, so maybe its worth putting in some effort here. Twin Suns does has a decent collection of boardgames for sale though.

Alternatively, I've been to Kaboom a few times. They recently leased an adjacent store and have space for open gaming.. Again, I've only ever seen CCGs played there, and they do not carry boardgames.

Please keep me posted on your exploration of this list! I'll do some digging and try to learn more myself.
