After reading through the posts in the forum, I understand that you can mix the action strips with and without Architect symbol to play the advanced game. But no matter how I mix and match, I couldn't notice any difference the Art Nouveau board has compared to normal game mode. Each action type still occur evenly in term of number in the AN board.

Anyone can help clarify on this?

You flip randomly some strips on expert side and leave some on normal side. This way some actions are less/more frequently present on the board.

Not quite sure what mean by more challenging. If you mix up the strips, you still have 5 Workshop Action, 5 Sale Action, 5 Royal Theatre Action, 5 Materials Action, and 5 Construction Action, which does not different from purely using all with/without the Architect symbol.

They're laid out so that if you use all the basic side, then each action appears in each column once. So no matter how you position the frame, you're likely to have most of the actions available. And it's unlikely that any particular action will be excluded from the possible actions too much. When you flip one of the tiles, then there might be a column that doesn't have the painting action and another that has two. If the painting action is doubled on one of the edges and missing in the middle, it's possible that it will be available less often. Which, of course, will affect how you should play.
