Make sure you have a backup game.

Keep the player aid handy
You'll only need it for the first few turns
The game itself is easy and divided in phases
Keep 4-5 hours free

Thanks Karan!

Hubert I have plenty of backup games. Playing this is a challenge for us because it looks complicated and we have put it off for sooo long. We finally said %$#@ it! We need to at least say we tried to play it before I sell/trade it.

I got this and Conquest of the Empire in a trade years ago and haven't played either of them.

kind of curious what you thought of the game after your play. It is horrible.

I was wondering the same thing, how did you like it when you finally played it?
I am in a similar situation at the moment.

Ditto this too... I just picked this up second hand by mistake (thought it was the OTHER Civ one. Was just going to try the Rhyse and Fall rules but eventually get into the CHR variant. Curious though how this plays with the normal rules...

Guess I can go back and see if I can dig out any reviews if anyone at all liked it...

In the mean time I have sold my copy. The only reasons I wanted to keep it were the nice game board, and nostalgia - having played every version of the PC game since Civ 1.
Storage space and budget for other games won it over nostalgia this time though.

We play it a lot here. A full course game takes from 12 to 16 hours to be complete. But we do not use the original rules set. We use a lot of house rules, mainly to resolve combat.

The game is long, and we felt very tired at the end, becouse we negociate a lot (a bunch of war mongerers around a table ), but we like it very much!

This games doesn't get enough table time here because of the required play time, but it is very well regarded, especially with the Wisdom and Warfare changes to combat.

I have to many games as it is. Chances are this will never be played. Sadly, it doesn't generate interest for sale/trade either.

Not sure what I will end up doing with it. It has great components but it does take valuable shelf space

I bought mine second-hand when it was still relatively hot, and attempted to sell it 2 years later when interest was terribly low. Also the new Civilization game was already out.

In the end I managed to sell it (at a big loss) to someone who collected army miniatures, and was looking for miniatures of that specific size. Was never going to play the game.

Considered for a moment to ask him if I could keep the board - since he was not going to use it - but figured it was just not done.
