We're celebrating 10 years of BGG.CON this year! As the first of some new surprises, we're announcing today that we're going on a cruise, and we want y'all to come with us!

Working with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines we've arranged a week-long gaming party that just happens to take you to some of the best parts of the Caribbean.

We'll be sailing on the Navigator of the Seas out of Galveston, Texas.

The best news is this ship has a 4,000sqft meeting room that we have secured for the entire week as permanent gaming space, and we're bringing the BGG Library! (At least, that portion of it you request to have available - details to come.)

Some details we have set, some we're still working out, but we want to get some feedback from y'all so we can make the best possible experience for everyone.

Ports of Call:
Falmouth, Jamaica
George Town, Grand Cayman
Cozumel, Mexico

Potential Dates:
03.29.2015 - 04.05.2015
05.31.2015 - 06.07.2015
08.23.2015 - 08.30.2015

Cabins: Price per Person Price per Person
(Double Occupancy) (Third and Fourth)
Suites (RS/OS/FS/GS/JS) $1,850 - $6,500 $700
Balcony (D1) $1,550 $700
Balcony (D2) $1,550 N/A
Interior (K/L) $1,300 $700
Interior (N) $1,150 N/A

(Note, prices are estimates only at this point - they will vary some by date - and not all cabin types are available for all dates, but they do include taxes, fees, port expenses, and convention badge.)

Space is limited - we have room and cabins reserved for around 200 people. Cruises are family-friendly and this event will be as well. We ask that children under 16 be accompanied in the game room and that crying and disruptive children of any age be removed from the game room.

Now, to test the waters so to speak... whistle

As soon as you'll let me, I would put money down to secure a spot on these sailings. (Select all that you are willing to commit to. Also note: due to other factors we will not necessarily choose the sailing with the most votes.)

2015 doesn't look good for me, but I hope this isn't just a one-time thing and I would be very interested in going on a cruise in future years during this time of year. (Select any and all months that are generally more favorable for you to travel. Please also answer this question if you are committed to 2015 and are so excited you know you already want to come back again.)

I would sign up for this type of cabin, for this many people. (Note: Single Occupancy is 200% of the cruise fare, so if you're by yourself, you'll pay slightly less than double the amounts quoted above - taxes, fees, port expenses and badge fees are not doubled. Also note: cabin classes D2 and N can only accommodate 2 guests so votes for more people than that will be ignored and punished severely. ;) Also also note: some suites can accommodate up to 8 guests so if you have a larger family, don't worry, we'll work it out - just vote for 4 people for right now.)

What date is closest to exactly 6 months from bgg.con? That would make the year so much easier to endure.

Man this would be great! I'd be in but just paid off our back-to-back on Independence.

To be honest, though, I'm surprised the Navigator is charging that much (Smaller ship, crappy itinerary). Perhaps they think us gamers wouldn't drink enough to help them meet their bar quota?

BGG.CON! BGG.CON SPRING! BGG@SEA!

I went on my first cruise this past spring, on the Serenade of the Seas. A smaller boat than the Navigator, but the same itinerary (but Saturday-Saturday out of NOLA). We only knew two other people on the boat (old college friends/coworkers/fellow board gamers), didn't do any "excursions", yet I still had the time of my life.

Filling this boat with Geeks and games sounds like a dream come true.

Let's do this.

Yay! I would put down money today as long as it wasn't the March-April timeslot. One of the "joys" of being married to an accountant is that social life stops between February-April 15 (sometimes, even to May 15).

If I can go, I'll definitely be bringing Jamaica.

Wife and I were on Voyager of the Seas back in 2011, which is the same class of ship as the Navigator. We found nothing lacking as far as size;, but as far as itinerary, I kinda have to agree. That may be because I've been on several cruises throughout the Western Caribbean and once you've stopped at most of these ports several times, there's not much else to see or do. We'd definitely be spending more time on the beach this go round.

Also, that's what the gaming library's for, right?

As for the dates, the end of March sounds pretty close to spring break, end of May is "The kids might just be out of school", and end of August is "Last hurrah before the kids have to go back to school". Not exactly dates that are hard to fill.

Those of you voting June/July for future cruises, have you ever been on a cruise in the gulf in summer? It's freakin' HOT!

Edit: Run-on sentence.

Edit 2: Anybody up for Pandemic? We can pretend we're combating the norovirus!

Can someone explain the pricing to me? I don't travel much.

Do you rent the cabin for 1550? (for example.) And for a second person it would be 3100? Are you allowed to go alone?

Thanks.

Prices are usually based off 2 people per cabin. Ive never sailed alone, but I think that you essentially pay double for a room to yourself.

Cruise Critic has a ton of resources and a very active forum. Tons of great info there!
