Welcome to the HQ for "Timing" News:

This is where you will be able to hear "The Official Scoop" on "When" the 2nd Edition of Police Precinct will release.

This info is being provided to both the amazing backers of this project as well as to ALL in the community who want to know the scoop.

We will be getting into some related areas here as well since many things do end up tied to this subject.

We will be exploring this rather vast subject in manageable sections so as to not totally overwhelm. These "sections" can be found below in this thread as follows...

blankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblankblank

SECTIONS BELOW:

CURRENT STATUS - This is us telling you what the timing is looking like at this point. We plan to edit this section over time such that you can look whenever you want and experience an up-to-date and in-a-nutshell scoop on "When" we here at CMG predict this game will release.

CURRENT TIMETABLE - Looking at what appears to be the schedule of how this game will release. This is also a section we plan to keep up-to-date.

BEHIND THE SCENES - Looking at what is happening behind the scenes that is affecting the timing.

ABOUT THE 2ND EDITION - Looking at what this game is all about and how it differs from it's predecessor (The original Police Precinct).

AVAILABILITY - Looking at what your options are if you want the game, but did not back this when it was Kickstartered.

CURRENT STATUS:

Will this project complete by the original projected date?

(December 2014)

That (was) the $64,000 Question!

But...

At this point, the answer is an unquestionable... "No, not going to happen!"

CMG's Best Guess is... May '15 (USA) / June '15 (worldwide)

Want details on the topic?

If yes, see the "Behind The Scenes" section below (and the entire thread), or skip ahead toward the end of this thread to get JUST the LATEST scoop.

STAYING CURRENT: Note that we here at CMG will do our best to keep this post up-to-date. Meaning that if the situation changes we will try alter this post to make it accurate, and we will try to do this right away as soon as we are aware that the situation has changed.

Once that's complete, we'll THEN begin another Kickstarter for the much anticipated Large Box Season II expansion. A deeper description of which is offered below (see item #20).
Keep in mind that the launch date listed above will likely be the actual launch, but it could possibly occur a bit later depending on certain factors including the app's development. The reason for this is that the app is set to tie in with the Kickstarter itself in certain important ways, and in order to do that we need the app to be developed to a certain degree for these aspects to occur in the way we envision (stay tuned for details) -- STATUS -- Complete

07/06 -- (item no. 18) -- APP LAUNCH: This is the date that we actually did launch the app version of Police Precinct to in multiple app stores (iOS and Android). -- STATUS -- Complete

07/29 -- (item no. 19) -- COMPLETE FULFILLMENT: With the recent Kickstarter for the App, we were able to make a very rapid (and early) delivery of the rewards! -- STATUS -- Complete

2017

There are quite a host of moves that we expect to make in 2017. Some of these will be happening behind the scenes while others in a more public eye. Some will take months to complete while others might take years (good things take time).

The following is our attempt to spell out some of what we are planning to be working on (at least the ones that we are at liberty to discuss).

THE APP: In relation to the Police Precinct app, Which has been out for a while and is doing well, we have plans to try to improve it even more. One small update did happen in Dec 2016 which included a special Holiday price, etc. Let's call that step-one in a two-step process. Then after that, we expect to release a new app. The new app will likely come out during 2017 at some point (details to follow). This new app is expected (and designed to) get more involvement with regard to ONLINE play of Police Precinct. This is an exciting step for us and one that we see as critical to the continued growth of the brand within the app side of things -- STATUS -- pending

Also during 2017 & Beyond we have a lot of plans to grow "Police Precinct" and "The World of Police Precinct" along with adding other completely new games to our Law Enforcement line of Games.

Initially we figured that "Season II" would be "the next big thing" for all of this, BUT...

Our latest thinking is that it would be best to take a step away from that direction (at least for now) and bring out some new games (games that are NOT necessarily listed below -- think completely off the radar!).

What games? (you might be asking)

Still top secret, but stay tuned for more about this in the early parts of 2017.

Here's a look at what Season II might look like when that comes around...

=======================================

Police Precinct: SEASON II

When we launch, it is expected (by us) that this Kickstarter will end up being our biggest and best ever! This is true partly because it will appeal to all prior backers, which is a departure from some of the CMG Kickstarters which have been targeted primarily at a select group of our fan base (e.g. - UPLIFT was for an Upgrade Kit for 1st Edition, ONLINE was for folks who like playing games on a screen, etc). In this Kickstarter we will offer the opportunity to not only get the Season II package, but also to get any and all prior material for the game as add-ons. This is great for any fans who have been waiting for the right situation in terms of getting items that they've seen come along since their last backing of a campaign.
This project has been in the works since before Police Precinct even premiered in 2013, so Ole and CMG have put in a TON of work into this! It's a Large Box Expansion consisting of a series of new episodes (at least two)Muggers, Jewell Heist , and possibly a 3rd known as Crime Wave (this possible 3rd Episode may come into being as a stretch goal during the Kickstarter and is slated to be the first ever Scenario Book which will allow for a campaign mode of play for Police Precinct and border on "Legacy" (but will likely NOT make permanent changes nor stop unlimited play of the game). This is the current top choice for a possible 3rd episode, but several other options are on the short list along with some very special Kudzma designs. Keep in mind that whatever does NOT make it into Season II can be simply added to Season III.

=======================================

Aside from Season II, there is a lot more coming to support this great brand, such as...

PRODUCT QUEUE:

About this list:
These represent possible upcoming titles within "The World Of Police Precinct".
They are roughly (and in theory) in chronological order as to when we will release them.
Some are expansions to the original, and others are stand alone games.
All go deeper into the story-line of Police Precinct.

# (Place-Holder Name for a new Dice Game)
Police Precinct: Legacy (more about this below)
The Streets of Commonville (Who Done it with a clock!)
Agent (Place-Holder Name for worker Stealing game)
Let's Roll (the dice version of Police Precinct)
Internal Affairs (Going deeper into the hunt for Dirty Cops!)
They Fight Crime (team version)
SNITCH (The long awaited return of this game currently only available in PnP)
Get a Clue (combination deduction AND social deduction version)
The Mod-Squad (the modular board version)
The Harbor (which Adds a waterfront to the board/map)
Junior Cadets (the kids version)
Crusade (Legacy version)
Season III (another 3 episode big box expansion. Then farther down the road will comes Season IV, V, VI, etc.)
Dooms Day (An epic version involving a 9-11 style series of events and all types of emergency response units)
Dispatch (A fast moving it's-always-your-turn version -- think 7 Wonders as an example of an It's-always-your-turn style game)
Cellblock (A prison setting with break-outs, contraband, gang warfare, you name it -- if prison has it so will this!)

Also...

iTABLE:
Projected date for work to begin on the 3rd eVERSION of the game (meaning Tabletopia was #1, the App version is #2, and this is #3). This version will be playable both in a PC & giant touch-screen environment (we like to call it an iTable). Developer is the Denver-based Dark Infinity -- STATUS -- (future stage)

LANGUAGES:
We are seriously looking at bringing the game out in other languages. This would likely begin with German, followed by Portuguese, and then more! -- Step one would be to revisit discussions with Schwerkraft-Verlagtreet (the best time to do this is late in the year - after Essen - thus allowing plenty of time to have the game polished and ready for Essen the following year).

OTHER:
Board Gamers League (We hope to see Police Precinct as a the featured Co-op for an upcoming season)
Double-Exposure Heralds (We hope to see Police Precinct being introduced to many gamers through this program)

WHAT'S NEXT:
Another resource in tracking what's going on with Police Precinct is this discussion about "What's Next!"...
https://boardgamegeek.com/article/19514693#19514693
(note: keep in mind that the "what's Next" link listed here/above is really mostly what our thinking was at a moment in time versus this post herein -- that you are reading now -- gets much more attention in terms of keeping it up to date throughout time)

LEGACY

Adding this idea into our mix is something Ole and CMG have been thinking about to one degree or another and in one form or another for years now. Though it has been purcolating behind the scenes it was NOT something we discussed openly in public forums, but that all changed on March 10th 2017 when the Dice Tower aired a show talking about games that they would like to see with a Legacy treatment, and Police Precinct was mentioned multiple times. At this point, we felt like the topic was just too ripe not to bring into the public forum, so we did.
Here's the thread we used to do it...
https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1742746/dice-tower-predicts...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And Kept Current!

DISCLAIMER: This timetable listed here is simply an estimate, and an optimistic one at that because it does NOT offer much of any wiggle room. For this reason, if anything does not go as planned, then everything herein is going to be pushed farther out into the future. Since there are so many moving pieces in the making of a game, please understand that it is not only possible but likely that what you see here will turn out to be off the mark. That said, let's think optimistically and hope things work out to be right on target!

NUMBERING: For ease of discussion, we have numbered the items listed in the timetable. You will notice that they tend to occur in the order of the item numbers, BUT over time, as the schedule has been re-engineered a time or two, leaving a number of them OUT-of-order with regard to their item number. We plan to leave it this way so that references which have been made are still accurate, also it leaves an interesting record of what we thought would be the sequential order of things at the time they were first place in the time-table.

MORE DETAILS: Are you one of those folks who LOVES details? Well if so, you can get a bit of the nitty-gritty in relation to how fulfillment will work, etc., by going here...
http://www.commonman.com/release-schedule/

UPDATE REFERENCING: We plan to do our UPDATES in such a way that we discuss being "ahead" or "behind" in relation to "The Current Schedule", which refers to whatever is listed here in this post.

NICKNAMING OF THIS SCHEDULE: For a variety of reasons, we have decided to nickname the schedules in addition to numbering them. For more details about this, go here...
http://boardgamegeek.com/article/17251229#17251229
(We call it "The Martin Naming System")
To see a list of Nicknamed Timetables, go here...
http://boardgamegeek.com/article/17251797#17251797

UPDATING POLICY: It is our current thinking and intention to do both...
1. Make an Official Update in this thread as soon as, and each time that, we are aware things have changed with regard to the "timing" of this project.
2. Update this particular post as follows:
We plan to NOT update the projected completion dates listed here without re-naming and re-numbering this schedule. If and when we do this, we also intend to take a snap-shot and document the event (so-to-speak). Also that, if one of our Official Updates lists us as being a few days behind, we will likely not re-name / re-number this schedule, but instead wait to see if things get back on track or more behind (and take action if that happens). We believe that this approach will lead to less confusion and fewer versions. Reminder to watch for updates later in this thread, example...
http://boardgamegeek.com/article/17304451#17304451

STAYING CURRENT: As is the case with the "Current Status" section, we here at CMG will do our best to keep this post up-to-date. Meaning that if the situation changes we will try alter this post to make it accurate, and we will try to do this right away as soon as we are aware that the situation has changed, though within our "Updating Policy" (see above).

BEHIND THE SCENES

Let's take a look at what's going on with this project behind the scenes that's making it play-out a bit later than originally estimated.

When we started the Kickstarter in November 2013, we needed to declare a date that we thought the project would be completed.

We decided to go with December 2014 (USA) and January 2015 (EU/world).

These dates seemed reasonable and attainable, and they were.

But...

Several things worked together to push us off the mark a bit. Some were expected and others not so much. Let's call them "surprises." Expected or not, they were all items we would characterize as Big Impact in nature.

SURPRISES:

These are items that took us by surprise in some way. Meaning that back in November 2013 we did not foresee this being as it turned out to be.

MODEL: This was not an easy decision to make, but we think the right one. To help ensure that backers get a great game, we are purchasing a model of the game from the factory. It's aint cheap, but at $800 for a single copy of the game, we think it's not a bad insurance policy for YOU! We have gone back and forth with the factory about if this is something that should be done, but the latest discussion (just last night) led us to conclude that YES, this is the way to go. To many games are produced without taking this step (imho) which leads to mistakes that could have been avoided.
So...
This one's on us!
Taking this extra step is one of our ways of saying thanks to the backers!
Final Concussion: If we subtract out this step it about puts us on track with our original timetable estimate, but we feel that's not a smart move.

SNITCH: The fact that we did a Kickstarter for SNITCH was not a surprise, but just how much it dominated our time during the lengthy campaign was a surprise. Why is this case? Hard to say, in fact you would think that by our 4th KS campaign we would have a pretty good sense of just how much it takes to run a KS, but...
Somehow it still hit us as a surprise. Lesson learned!
btw - for SNITCH fans reading this, we have not forgotten about you and your commitment to the game. It shall return and we'll update you when it does. Thanks!!!

DID MORE: This is actually a really big deal with this conversation. I (Karl here) would go as far as to say this is the #1 reason that we are running a bit behind with the timing. When we ran the Kickstarter we claimed that we would do certain things with the game in terms of changes and improvements. We have in fact gone way beyond this. Doing so took a lot of time. Regarding this, we would like to say to the backers... "We think when you get the game, you will be VERY happy we did this!"

NEW FACTORY: This is also a big deal. During the Kickstarter we were not really expecting to switch factories, but the way certain things played out with the old factory in relation to an order we had with them, led us to decide that this was absolutely critical to do. The new factory we are working with is amazing and the prefect place for us to be long-term. They make some of the best games in the industry (award winning I might add). They are very responsive to our needs and we have a direct communication with the highest levels of management. It can't be overstated, just how great this switch has been so far and should continue to be into the future, BUT...
Whenever you make a change it takes time to develop a groove with your new partner. This area is falling into place beautifully, but of course taking time. No real way to get around this.

EXPECTED:

These are items that took a lot of our time and resources, so are part of this conversation, but not surprisingly. Meaning that we expected these these areas to be a big deal and to take a lot of time.

INTERACTION: In case you haven't noticed, we are very big on working with the community to develop our games. We feel like this is going to have many benefits, not the least of which is a better game. Doing this TAKES TIME! So, no surprise, because we factored this in and we were expecting it, but this doesn't change the fact that this is one of the big factors that took up time in this project.

LOST FILES: As most of you have heard a-time-or-two, the working files for the game Police Precinct were lost forever in an unfortunate melt-down of the hard-drive that housed them. No there was no back-up in place (sadly). It was tragic and cost a huge amount of time and effort to recreate the game. We felt like Police Precinct was/is much too great of a game to just walk away from when something like this happens, thus the the 2nd Edition was inevitable. Kickstarter is a great tool to "Create" and in this case to "RE-Create!"
So, no surprise with this one either, meaning that we knew this was going to be a big impact item, but YES this challenge of Re-creation was something that took a lot of time to carry out!

SITUATION REALIZED:

When did CMG realize what the timetable situation really was? As-in, when did all of this become apparent?

Knowing that we were on the eve of another update going out to backers, we wanted to get answers about this topic from the factory, so...

Late last night (during the business hours of our factory), we were discussing (via email) several topics, including and most especially this all-important Timing one.

Quality was also being discussed and led us back to the topic of the Model. This time around, we both agreed this was a step that should happen. Part of how this came about was due to us bringing up a major problem that happened with one of the other Kickstarter publishers at a different factory. The problem was saved from epic proportions simply due to the fact that they did use a model as part of their process.

For this reason, last night we decided (again) to use a model in our process. That one fact adds close to a month to the project's timeline. Going with the model in combination with the fact that the proofing process has been taking longer than expected did push us over the edge with the timing. It took us from thinking that...

YES this project IS most likely to come in ON-TIME, to now having us thinking that NO it is not likely to come in on time.

As recently as September 12th we were voicing the opinion that this project WAS on time...
http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1234691/second-edition-relea...

Not now.

cry

You can see us beginning to voice our concerns a few days ago (see comments section of the Kickstarter) as we started to see time slipping away during the proofing stage (which is still not done and taking more time than expected).

cry

CONCLUSION:

All sorts of things (expected and unexpected) came into play with this project (and continue to), but due primarily to the items listed here, we are currently a bit behind the original estimate.

We hope to, over time, develop a reputation for delivering the majority of our projects on time or early. We also want to earn a reputation as a publisher who is willing to communicate clearly and honestly with backers and the entire gaming community when things don't go as planned.

Wait, one more thing...

Our sincere apologies go out to the backers for the fact that this project is not delivering when we had hoped it would.

UPDATE METHOD:

This section (meaning this exact post) is NOT one that we'll be Updating. Think of it more as a time capsule reporting our thinking as of 10/1/14 and discussing history that occurred leading up to this date, BUT...

As we move forward in time and we DO have info to report on this topic, we will do so via updates later in this thread.

Our thinking is that this entire thread will act as a central point for reporting news related to the timing of the release of this game.

Sincerely,

Karl Fenner, Director Common Man Games

ABOUT 2E

Let's take a look at what the 2nd Edition is and how it differs from the 1st.

But, before we dig in too deep, let's start with a fun link posted by one of the Real Cops that does more than just "play" the game...
http://boardgamegeek.com/article/17026727#17026727

Now, let's get back to the topic of how 2E compares to 1E.

On this topic we say...

"Why reinvent the wheel?"

Nothing tells this story better than the HQ!

Check out the whole thread, or just focus on this one post...

AVAILABILITY

Let's take a look at how one might be able to get this game if they missed the Kickstarter...

At first we were thinking that this topic could easily be dropped into one post (this post), but we have come around to the thinking that it's just too large of a subject and deserves it's own dedicated thread.

Here it is...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1245994/official-info-availa...

If you don't want to jump over and see the detailed discussion quite yet, then here's a small preview of some of the things being discussed over there...

1. HOW TO GET WHOLE COPIES OF THE GAME:
Supply will be tight, so getting a copy could be tricky, but we do offer up ideas that we think could help.

2. HOW TO GET PARTS OF THE 2ND EDITION:
We want 1st Edition folks to have the ability to get certain parts of the 2nd Edition if they want.

And more!

Thanks!!!

So what you are saying is that you were hit over the head and lost some time? I think you should incorporate that into the game!

Running concurrent KS projects something that put Tasty Minstrel WAY behind on all of their projects. Greater Than Games had the same problems. After reading this I'm hoping companies will learn the hard lessons that TS, GTG, and you have learned: Don't run concurrent projects.

Hey Joe!!!!

Great to hear from you!

We plan to figure out a way for that to happen.

In fact...

I was literally writing about it and pushing the "submit" button about the same time you were.

Here's what I just wrote in the "Availability" section above...

"2. HOW TO GET PARTS OF 2E:
We want 1st Edition folks to have the ability to get parts of the 2nd Edition if they want. We know this is very important to many. How exactly that will be done is yet to be determined, but making sure that you are on some sort of Update List with us is a good idea so that you don't miss out on it when it happens."

We were on the same wave-length!

Add this to the list of Kickstarters I missed and wished I had supported. I desperately want to check this game out. Hopefully you'll have 2E's available for sale for those of us that missed it – though I see you say quantity is likely going to be very tight.

Hey Xav!

Great to hear from you!!!

Did you add yourself to our update list yet? (see bottom of our homepage)

That could help with this.

UPDATE:
I just noticed that you have added yourself to the list now. Great!!!

To be honest....

I was on the fence about this game. But the transparency, communication, and pleasant online interactions with people (which shouldn't be confused with just communication) motivated me to preorder back in September.

As for being a month behind schedule for a KS... that means you're still doing better than most.

My only question: how does a person subscribe to anything and everything you guys do?

Hey Shelby!

Go here...

www.commonman.com

then go all the way down to the bottom of the page for the sign-up form.

Fill it out and that should pretty well cover you so far as being in-the-loop with CMG.

And...

Thanks!!!

PS - I remember you because of your last name (I had a buddy in HS named Gary Babb). You sound like another great Babb!

UPDATE:

Not much to say right now except that the timing listed here in this thread appears to still be plausible (if not likely).

And, if all plays out as predicted in this thread, then...

We will be at BGG Con in possession of Advance copies and ready to play with YOU!

("YOU", in this case, is anyone at BGG con)

Here is a little thread posted a few minutes ago...

UPDATE:

Late last night we received a confirmation that YES work is underway NOW on the production of the 5 samples of 2E.

This likely means that they started work earlier this week, but let's assume the worst-case scenario, which is that they (the factory) started yesterday. They have told us that making these samples will take 2 weeks, and at other times have said 15 days.

Let's once again assume the worst case scenario and figure 15 days, so...

This puts us on 11/30 for finished samples.

So, worst case we are 2 days behind originally estimated in this thread.

More likely though we are right about on track with that.

Either way, these copies of the game appear to be on board for BGG Con play.

UPDATE:

We just got confirmation that the samples should be done soon.

We're hearing the 28th as a completion date.

This is right where we figured it would be.

Puts a smile on my face.

A bit like that one.

Question...

"What should we call the schedule?"

We feel like it should have a name of some kind.

Here's the name we're pickin'...

CURRENT TIMETABLE - Version 2.0

OK, I agree it's not a catchy name, but...

It's a name.

More about this in a minute.

Hang on...
